The size of the deal continues to grow. If the 500 or so aircraft being ordered by Air India and then IndiGo were not big enough, now there is another massive deal on the table, this time from Qatar.
Qatar Airways places a new order for Boeing 787 and 777X Aircraft.
In a landmark move that underscores its ambitious expansion plans, Qatar Airways has announced a significant aircraft order in its history, signing agreements with Boeing and GE Aerospace valued at USD 96 billion. The deal, unveiled during US President Donald Trump’s visit to Doha, includes up to 210 widebody aircraft and over 400 engines, marking significant milestones for all parties involved.

The comprehensive agreement encompasses:
- 160 firm orders: comprising 130 Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 30 Boeing 777-9 aircraft.
- Options for 50 additional planes, allowing flexibility for future expansion.
This transaction represents Boeing’s largest-ever widebody and 787 Dreamliner order, solidifying Qatar Airways’ position as a leading global carrier. The airline currently operates over 150 Boeing aircraft, including the Boeing 777 and Boeing 787 passenger jets, as well as 777 freighters. With this new order, Qatar Airways is set to become the largest Dreamliner operator in the Middle East.
In tandem with the aircraft purchase, Qatar Airways has entered into a significant agreement with GE Aerospace for more than 400 engines, including 60 GE9X engines for the 777-9 and 260 GEnx engines for the 787 Dreamliner fleet. This marks the largest widebody engine deal in GE Aerospace’s history.
Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, expressed enthusiasm about the deal:
We are happy to announce our agreement with Boeing and our partnership in the largest widebody aircraft order in Boeing’s history and the biggest aircraft order in our history. This is a critical next step for Qatar Airways on our path as we invest in the cleanest, youngest and most efficient fleet in global aviation.
