Buying miles can represent a tremendous opportunity to travel in luxury in a high-airfare environment, especially when airlines also run a promotion on their points offering. Now, Qatar Airways is offering a not-very-often miles promotion on Qatar Airways Privilege Club Avios purchases, where they offer an opportunity to receive a 50% bonus on the purchase of miles.

Buy Qatar Airways Privilege Club Avios

Qatar Airways recently moved to Avios as their loyalty currency. Avios can be freely moved forward and aft with British Airways and other flavours of Avios without losing their value. Now, they are presenting a flash sale to buy Avios, which might be targetted. Through April 7, 2024, Qatar Airways is offering an opportunity to purchase miles with a 50% bonus. The promotion being offered is a tiered one. The tiered offering is as follows:

  • Buy 3,000 – 15,000 Miles and get a 20% Bonus
  • Buy 16,000 – 30,000 Miles and get a 30% Bonus
  • Buy 31,000 + Miles and get a 50% Bonus

If you go through with the top end of the promotion, you could buy 375,000 miles at 5,750 USD, which is 1.53 US Cents / INR 1.27 per Qatar Airways Privilege Club Avios purchased.

The maximum number of miles you can purchase per calendar year is 250,000 (ex, any applied bonuses). Miles are usually posted to your account quickly, but at most within 72 hours.

Qatar Airways A380

Qatar Airways is a part of the oneworld alliance, and you can redeem for American Airlines, Qatar Airways and British Airways online while raising requests to book for other carriers. From India, a trip to/from the US/Canada (one-way) in the QSuites is just 80,000 Avios and INR 21K (or you can use the doorbuster at double the Avios). You can transfer these Avios to your British Airways Executive Club account for more options.

You should use an American Express Platinum Charge Card, Citi Prestige or an Axis Bank Reserve Credit Card because the purchase will be processed in US Dollars by Points.Com. This way, you get bonus points for your purchase because it is international.

Bottomline

Qatar Airways is offering a 50% bonus on the purchase of Avios on their latest promotion for the purchase of miles. Avios has many good uses, including flying on American Airlines and Qatar Airways premium cabins. The promotion is valid till April 7, 2024, at the end of the day.

Do you plan on buying Qatar Airways Avios with this promotion?

  1. Is it possible to buy Europe – Doha business class using Avios and then buy Doha – India economy using cash? Will they handle bag transfer etc?

I found that the Avios redemption is quite poor for India -> Doha and comes with high taxes.

    • @Johnny, while it was not written in the T&C expressly, maybe it was just for those with an Indian address? Why would Qatar Airways dream up a promotion and send out mailers if this were not the case? And why would I write about something that does not exist?

  2. Ajay, considering Del-europe business class ticket is for 55k miles +12k, doesn’t it make sense to buy these miles @1.16 inr, considering that one way business class ticket is not less than 115000/- inr. Points will effectively cost 75000/-? Please suggest if this calculation is correct. As I travel to Europe once or twice every year, buying these points makes sense to me.
