Indigo takes top spot from Jet Airways as India’s largest airline

I’ve been seeing this coming for a while now, but it finally happened. Indigo, the low-fare carrier which started up in 2006 to serve the Indian skies, inched ahead of the Jet Airways combine as of the July 2012 data which was reported last night. I’m not too much into reporting marketshare data on my blog, but this one does deserve a mention. As per the newest numbers published by the DGCA on 17th August 2012, here is the marketshare split amongst all the operators in India: IndiGo – 27% Jet Airways – 19.4%; JetLite – 7.2% (Combined 26.6%) Air India – 18.2% Spicejet – 17.8% Go Air – 7% Kingfisher – 3.4% I’ve loved Indigo’s no nonsense approach from…

Announcing a new airline…with a fleet of 6 planes!

Hi guys, after sampling the products of various airlines for years and then talking about them here, I’m thinking of taking the dip into running an airline myself. I’ve taken over a fleet of planes, and now looking for experienced manpower to start operations. Who all want to be on board? All positions are open right now, including CEO. Drop me a comment to express interest. And yes, if you’re wondering which kind of pilots do we need for our new fleet, have a look and apply accordingly.   Hope to hear from ya all, shortly! Also tell me how you want the loyalty program to be, and which alliance should I target?   Live From A Lounge is also…

Delhi Airport’s Terminal 3 is clearly the new hotbed of action for airlines. The benefit of a new terminal are clearly showing. Back in June 2012, Jet Airways took a sort of a poll about their new and coming co-branded credit card partnerships, branded the “Wheel of Fortune” contest. The initial participants were offered a prize, that if they got the correct answer, they get a 1-year fee waiver on their credit card application upon approval. However, later the Terms & Conditions were changed to make it 1000 JP Miles per correct answer. Evidently, some people will now get the First year free offer and some others will get the 1000 JP Miles. Here are two extracts from the T&C: Jet Airways reserves the right to offer eligible winners 1,000 Bonus JPMiles or any other equivalent offer The “First year Fee waiver”…

Are the stars aligning for Jet Airways in Star Alliance? Air India is now a no go!

Things have an interesting way to move around in the Indian aviation sector. Air India took 4 long years to be ready for the *A, and eventually their membership was put on hold. Last week, a full year after the Air India membership being put on hold, I wrote about Jet Airways’ formal invitation to join the Star Alliance being made public, and how it would work out for Jet Airways. In a press report by a major Indian financial news paper, which is actually an interview with India’s civil aviation minister, it now comes to light that Star Alliance has responded last week to Air India in the negative and the Government of India will be supportive of Jet…

Jet Airways–HDFC Bank Credit Card is now free for Jet Airways Platinum

Yesterday I wrote about the new Jet Privilege – HDFC Bank credit cards which are now out in the market. In a comparison with the old tie-up with Citibank, there were some better benefits which I pointed out. Here is a summary: JetPrivilege Platinum members used to have the Citibank Credit Card free as long as they held their Platinum tier. With HDFC Bank, that was not the case. In the tie-up with Citibank, there were renewal benefits where the card-members would get bonus miles on fee payment every year. With HDFC Bank, that benefit was withdrawn. The upgrade vouchers for Rs. 2,00,000 spend offered by Citibank are replaced with one tier point for the same spend with HDFC Bank.…
