“Nobody goes hungry on a MegaDo!”– Randy Petersen

It has been a week or so since I have come back from my first MegaDo, and apart from the many airline moments we had, there was a whole bunch of gastronomic delights lined up along the way. When not flying, we were sampling some very good food which I am assuming airline catering departments were told to keep from interfering with Winking smile I can promise you these were not GateGourmet or SkyGourmet catering which we get on our flights.

The title statement was made by Randy on the MegaDo blog in the planning stages, and I thought I’d test it out during this MegaDo. Let’s take a peep into all the interesting food on the ground!

Monday, 23rd January, we were hosted by American Airlines at The Bridge, where there was a light send-off party before the JFK-LHR flight took off.

On Tuesday, our hosts were British Airways who hosted us in London at the Terminal 5 Arrivals Lounge of British Airways. The Lounge was closed for guests since all the flights for that day were serviced, and hence at the disposal of British Airways for the MegaDo reception. It started with some nice Champagne…

British Airways had lined up an exquisite wine collection they pour in-flight and at their lounges.

The appetizers were lovely, and I could try some more of those BA burgers, which were mini burgers with some juicy patty!

Next day, our breakfast at the American Airlines Admirals Club in London was cancelled due to the cancellation of flight AA51, but after a hungry day crossing the pond, we were in for a sumptuous reception by the Hyatt on the evening of 25th January, when the MegaDo officially kicked off in Dallas. In this Texas setting, the reception was a Wild Wild West themed one, and so was the food!

Next morning, the Hyatt Diamond Breakfast was at the American Airlines charter check-in counter!

During the day, we were hosted by American Airlines for a luncheon at the CR Smith Museum and Flight Training Academy. There was quite some food again!

I’m saving the in-flight meals for another day, but once we were at Boeing, we ate out of a meal box which I am sure would not interest any of you! However, the grand finale of the OWMD was a reception hosted by American Airlines, Qantas and Cathay Pacific at LAX, and the food was from all over the place. The Wine, from American Airline’s wine consultant, Ken Chase, who was there to chat up with the crowd and give them an insight into the American Airlines wine offering!
