Mumbai Cyclone Update: Mumbai Airport to cancel many flights

As everyone knows, 2020 is the year when natural disasters don’t just rain, they pour, and Mumbai and surrounding cities, which are in the eye of Cyclone Nisarga which is expected to make landfall on June 3 morning, will literally witness the pouring of this cyclone.

As expected, the airport does not expect to operate at full capacity today, even much lesser than the 25 flights arrival and departure per day allowed at the moment. As per a media statement issued by the airport at 12:30 AM in the morning,

In the wake of Cyclone Nisarga, GVK MIAL managing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) will be operating a total of 19 flights which include 11 departures and 8 arrivals on June 3. The flights will be operated by 5 airlines which include Air Asia India, Air India, IndiGo, GoAir and SpiceJet. There could be changes to the schedule and passengers are requested to check the schedule with their respective airline before leaving for the airport.

As per various people, IndiGo will fly out all flights where the planes are parked in Mumbai airport, but won’t have any arriving flights till 23:30 IST on June 3, 2020. These flights will be to Chandigarh, Ranchi and Patna. For IndiGo, about 17 flights have been cancelled. Vistara, on the other hand, has cancelled all their flights from/to Mumbai for the day.

If you have a flight operating into Mumbai, it would anyways be a bad idea to get in because over 200 mm rain is predicted.
