It is always interesting to see a chain open a vacation property around India, something which has started to happen recently. Apart from Goa, most international hotel chains haven’t worked on their expansion in the leisure market around India and they are catching up now.
One of the properties I’ve been keenly tracking is the Le Meridian which is going to open in Mahabaleshwar, a 6-8 hour ride away from Mumbai, based in the hills. Mahabaleshwar is a sleepy town full of tourists when the strawberries are there, and a getaway from Mumbai. However, it did not have a chain property so far.
Le Meridian is changing that from March 2015, when they open their gates on March 1. The resort has seen a shifting date over and over again, for instance, they were to open in December 2014 before they moved the date to March 2015, but now it seems finally there, because they have actually started accepting reservations. Of course, information is not fully available and room pictures are still renderings, but you can check details here.
At INR 10K upwards per night for a pre-paid room, the rooms are pricey indeed, but as a category 3 SPG property, you can have rooms per night at 7000 Starwood points or 3500 SPG Points+cash.
