While Jet Airways is working its way on starting up the alliance with Etihad, some baby steps have already been taken in regard to activating the scissor hub at Abu Dhabi. As per AirlineRoutes.net, one of the first flight to have taken on from the new scissor hub is going to be a new flight which flies from Chennai to Dammam via Abu Dhabi from 15 January 2014. The flight details are as below:
Chennai – Abu Dhabi – Dammam daily service
9W526 MAA2015 – 2325AUH0145+1 – 0210+1DMM 73H D
9W525 DMM0650 – 0915AUH1045 – 1615MAA 73H D
The Kochi – Kuwait service is also being retimed to allow scissor hops at Abu Dhabi. The service would now operate as a Kochi – Abu Dhabi – Dammam
9W576 COK2040 – 2330AUH0145+1 – 0255+1KWI 73H D
9W575 KWI0635 – 0915AUH1040 – 1600COK 73H D
The Abu Dhabi – Dammam flight would be only available when connecting from/to another Jet Airways flight from/to India.
While this is the first hop, this certainly is not the last one. Over the past few days I am increasingly hearing more and more about New York JFK being reintroduced on the network map, and also bringing along Chicago ORD as well. This plan has been sort of confirmed by someone at 9W off the record, to be operated via Abu Dhabi on Jet Airways’ 77Ws, which have for so long been not utilised by the airline and have been leased all over to others such as Turkish Airlines. With this hop in place, I expect the flight to be also synchronised with Etihad’s own plans for North America, where it already is launching operations to the 6th station in the USA soon. This is again in line with what we had discussed in this earlier post in September.
Jet Airways’ 77Ws have a fantastic first class product, however, i hope the product is still in good shape after being returned from other carriers to launch their own operations on these planes.
Stay tuned for more updates…
