Jet Airways launches an iOS app

One of the perennial cribs I have had with Indian airlines has been the lack of apps on the various smartphones. These are required these days purely from the purpose of keeping up with the life on the go. Jet Airways started to roll out apps for various smartphones earlier this year, and went with the Android app in September. They promised an iOS app soon, and it seems it turned up on Christmas.

I downloaded the app today, and the functionality seems to be similar to the app on the Android platform. You can book flights, check flight status, log into your JP account and check your account activity and so on…

However, I also found it lacking in some key departments, where an app could really really help. For instance, I can’t check in on the phone with the app yet, or manage my itineraries, or cancel a ticket, or redeem my JPMiles.

Also, it does not entirely use the functionality of iOS 6/7 very well. For instance, on the American Airlines app, I can save my Executive Platinum membership card in my iPhone’s PassBook, and and it keeps getting updated with the number of miles I have as well, apart from reflecting my status with the airline. Even Cleartrip and BookMyShow offer passbook features, but Jet Airways, on the other hand, offers to store an image of my membership card on my iPhone’s photo gallery. Err, whatever happened to getting the most out of the iOS features?

What do you guys think of the app? I think it has quite some way to go before it becomes useful enough for me!
