IndiGo to launch operations from Hindon in July 2025

After establishing a leading presence in Delhi’s IGI Airport, and committing to launching operations at the neighbouring Jewar Airport, whenever it opens, IndiGo is now opening a third frontier, where it has had no presence so far. Hindon, which is an airforce airbase in Ghaziabad, which recently opened up to civilian travel with Star Air, and became a major base for Air India Express. Now, IndiGo is entering as well.

IndiGo to launch operations from Hindon in July 2025

IndiGo has announced the launch of direct flights from Hindon. Effective July 20, 2025, the airline will commence direct operations from Hindon to eight cities across India, namely Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Indore, Kolkata, Mumbai, Patna, and Varanasi. Hindon marks IndiGo’s 93rd domestic and 136th overall station and is the second airport that the airline connects in the National Capital Region (NCR).

IndiGo currently operates over 1500 weekly departures from Delhi, connecting over 85 destinations on its network. For residents of Ghaziabad, East Delhi and other parts of Western Uttar Pradesh, the launch of these flights will bring  convenience and more travel options.

As you will see, the entry of IndiGo is in typical IndiGo fashion, with a large number of flights on Day one itself. Bengaluru will get twice a day flights, arguably to connect people who have roots in Ghaziabad but work in Bengaluru. Here is the full schedule of flights.

This image is a table listing flight schedules. The columns include Flight Number, Origin, Destination, Frequency, Effective Date, Departure Time, and Arrival Time. The table contains various flights between cities such as Bengaluru, Hindon, Kolkata, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Patna, Varanasi, Chennai, and Indore. Frequencies are listed as "Daily" or specific days of the week, with an effective date of July 20, 2025. Departure and arrival times are provided for each flight. The table has a blue background with dark blue headers.

Why does IndiGo need to be at Hindon?

There are many reasons it is important for IndiGo to be present at Hindon. As Delhi moves into a three airport system, like other major metros such as New York and London have, the small aero conclave that Hindon is, with only about 300 passengers throughput per hour, would have space for only one or two major carriers. With the arrival of IndiGo, and the existing presence of Air India Express, that space is almost all taken now. The rest of it will be handled by StarAir, Flybig and so on.

The airport’s civil conclave came to being just for regional operations, back in 2019, but with Delhi Airport undergoing some or the other capacity constraints, they (GMR Aero) have had to give up their legal cases to protest against airlines being able to operate from Hindon. Also, there is the instrument upgrade at Delhi Airport, for Runway 10/28 ongoing, due to which there is a cut across airline schedules through September 2025 at least. A great opportunity for IndiGo to reallocate those aircraft to Hindon and get their capacity back up in the Delhi NCR region.

Bottomline

IndiGo will come over to Hindon in Ghaziabad, as of July 20, 2025 and launch flights to eight cities on day one of the launch of their operations. The airport already has the major presence of Air India Express, and the presence of Flybig and Star Air, so IndiGo will take up most of the remaining available space.
