IndiGo has been affected in terms of operating their Central Asian network due to the closure of the Pakistani Airspace for Indian aircraft as of May 2025. IndiGo used to operate flights to Almaty, Tashkent and Tbilisi which used to take two-three hours, but now take over five hours. Due to this, IndiGo had to shut down some of these flights.
IndiGo expands Central Asian Network from Mumbai
IndiGo will enhance its international capacity to Central Asia with the launch of direct flights to three key destinations: Almaty, Tashkent, and Tbilisi.
Starting July 1, 2025, IndiGo will commence operations from Mumbai to Almaty, followed by flights to Tashkent from August 01, 2025, and to Tbilisi from August 02, 2025. The airline will operate four weekly flights to both Tashkent and Almaty, and three weekly flights to Tbilisi, enhancing connectivity between India and the growing markets of Central Asia.
Earlier on, IndiGo used to operate flights between Delhi and Almaty, which were further made daily as of 2024. These flights are not operating as of now. So, Delhi – Almaty is left to Air Astana, which has been operating on the route for a long time. Mumbai – Almaty will also not go unchallenged, as IndiGo will face Air Astana on this route as well.
Over to Tashkent, IndiGo will again see discontinuation of daily flights which used to operate from Delhi and start with a four weekly flight. Uzbekistan Airlines is their competitor on the Mumbai – Tashkent route.
The Delhi to Tbilisi route continues, although it takes five hours now. So, the addition of three times weekly flight from Mumbai is a net addition to the capacity.
Here is the timing of the new flights, which will launch in July and August 2025.
Bottomline
IndiGo will restart flights to Almaty and Tashkent, but via Mumbai instead of Delhi. The airline will also add flights to Tbilisi from Mumbai, apart from Delhi in the coming days. This will be a change for the airline as it adjusts its priorities after the prolonged closure of the Pakistani airspace, which affects flights originating from Delhi and heading westwards.
