Yesterday, Hilton Honors extended the points expiration to 24 months. Earlier on, this used to be 15 months. Read on.
Hilton Honors points now expire after 24 months
In an update posted on the Hilton Honors FAQs, Hilton states,
In addition to pausing Points expiration until December 31, 2022, we are also extending the amount of time required to keep your Hilton Honors account active from 15 to 24 months. Members must keep their Hilton Honors account active to keep their Hilton Honors Points. Under the new policy, if your account is inactive for 24 consecutive months, your total Point balance will expire.
Given the pandemic, Hilton has also paused the expiration of points till December 31, 2022.
Here is how Hilton members can keep their points active:
- Stays at a Hilton Honors participating hotel
- Earn/Redeem Hilton Honors points
- Transfer points into Hilton Honors
- Purchase Hilton Honors points
As per Hilton, this is a permanent change to their policy, which means there is no end date.
This sounds like a fair change to the policy and better than many programmes. Hilton has been leading from the front with respect to being customer-friendly about loyalty programmes over the past year and a half into this pandemic, and this is no different.
Bottomline
Hilton Honors points now expire after 24 months of inactivity, rather than the earlier 15 months. This is a welcome change since the earlier 15 months were a bit lower than any major hotel loyalty programme. You can also extend the expiry of your Hilton Honors points with any points earning or redemption activity.
