HDFC Smartbuy Extra Savings Days Sale till December 25 offers upto 15X points on Amazon and 10% travel/voucher discount

HDFC Bank has majorly modified the SmartBuy 10X programme over the months, limiting redemptions to 70% in points and 30% in cash for one, and also reducing the number of points you could earn from major retailers such as Amazon and Flipkart. However, from time to time, they do a push to engage with people and remind them of the good times we had for years together.

HDFC Bank has a new Extra Savings Day Sale going on at the moment, which is offering double to triple points on Amazon and Flipkart purchases on December 23-25, 2020. Having said that, if you choose to participate in the shopping spree over INR 50,000, you will get additional points cap on your card, which is 10000 points for the HDFC Bank Diners Black and 15,000 points for the HDFC Bank Infinia. Here is how the offer works for all the HDFC Bank Debit and Credit Cards.

The monthly offer on Amazon of 5X Reward points or 5% Cashback and Flipkart offer of 3X Rewards points or 1% Cashback is inclusive in Slab 1 offer of Amazon & Flipkart. The overall max cap of 30,000 Rewards Points on Infinia Credit Cards and 17,500 Rewards points on Diners Black Credit Card and up to INR 3000 Cashback will be applied on the cumulative spends done on both Amazon & Flipkart at Per individual Card level.

Here are the illustrations from HDFC Bank for Infinia.

Regular readers and Mileage Mentor MasterClass participants would remember that HDFC Bank also has online vouchers on sale for various brands on the SmartBuy portal. These earn 10X points for the Infinia and Diners Black card shoppers and is a great way to get assured 10X points (33% cashback). You get a small discount also now.

Also, Travel bookings have always been a great way to earn 10X points with the HDFC Bank cards. There are added sweeteners to those as well, this week, such as a 10% discount with these promotion codes. I already used this promotion and it works nicely.

As the credit card spending season comes back with the festivities, expect more of these to come your way.

What do you make of the current offer from HDFC Bank? Do share how do you think would you use these offers?

  1. This is misleading! 15X bonus points means 15 times the normal bonus points. But here it seems total bonus points is 1X+14X. So technically its 14X?

  2. This reward point system from HDFC Bank is very shady. I have never been able to correlate spending with these bonus 10X points. Unlike other cards, HDFC Bank cards never give reward point statements like how many points you earned for each transaction. I have also written to them asking for details but it just goes in circles. If anyone has been able to verify the points earned against spends do let us know! They mention bonus points will be credited after 90 days. Yet never could account for the same. I don’t think they can advertise this and not credit bonus points but……..

  3. so:
    1. illustrations above show that BAU basis the max eligible spend is 22500/45000 on DB/infinia (7500/15000) rp and not the 25000/500000 that you have been suggesting in the past since the illustration suggests they simply cap the points irrespective of whether they are credited immediately (1x) or later(9x).
    2. How does the extra sale work if the bau caps have already been exhausted via BAU spends prior to sale period (23-25dec)? Does it mean that you don’t get any points if you spend upto 50k? (i mean ignoring the normal 1x) since the cap was already exhausted prior to sale?
