Go First (finally) stops accepting bookings for their flights

On May 2, 2023, Go First cancelled flights for three days and declared they had voluntarily filed an insolvency petition with the NCLT, the bankruptcy court in India. From there, customers are stranded across various stations, unable to fly back to India or proceed with their travel plans.

While Go First has cancelled flights through May 12, 2023, the airline has sounded off internally that “if” things go the way they intended, the airline should be back in the air in the next week or so. How that would be possible with one-third of their aircraft fleet gone is anyone’s guess.

But it now looks like Go First is getting more serious about what could be a long winter for them. The airline was doing a small cancellation of flights every few days, and they were last not selling flights till May 22, 2023. They have zeroed out all flights, and nothing is on sale anymore (even in 2024!)

In a way, this is a good protection for Go First from raising more liabilities for themselves, which they may not be able to service. And also, gullible customers will now not ignorantly book Go First anymore.

Bottomline

Go First, after a lot of short closures for sales, has finally extended the cancellation of their flight sales sine die for now. So, you cannot book flights on Go First in the future for now.

What do you make of this situation? Do you think Go First will be able to revive, or is it gone now?

  1. I had booked flight from Nagpur to Pune for 24th May, just a day before Go First filed for voluntary insolvency.
Now I have received email regarding flight cancellation and refund note.

Finally, it looks like they have cancelled all flights for future date booking. Kingfisher Airlines, Jet Airways, and now Go First, RIP.
