Emirates is offering a limited-time promotion where they are offering 50% bonus miles to Skywards members who are going to buy miles from them through October 27, 2019.
Skywards, on an ongoing basis, allows members to purchase up to 100,000 Skywards miles, or receive them as a gift every calender year. For the period of this promotion, which is valid between 00.01 GST on October 22, 2019, and 23.59 GST on October 27, 2019, Emirates is offering the ability to get 1.5 miles for every mile you purchase with Emirates. On an ongoing basis, Emirates sells miles at USD 30 / INR 2184 for 1000 Skywards miles. With the current promotion, you would be able to get 1500 miles for the same price, making the price per mile INR 1.46/US 2.1 cents.
Skywards Miles purchased through the Offer count towards the maximum limit of 100,000 Miles that a Member can purchase for self or receive as a gift in a calendar year. However, Bonus Miles earned through the Offer do not count towards the maximum limit of 100,000 Miles that a Member can purchase for self in a calendar year.
Skywards Miles earned through this offer will reflect in the Skywards account within 48 hours after payment.
Should you consider this promotion?
On many routes, you may find Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan to be having a better redemption chart than Emirates own. For instance, BOM/JFK return in Business Class wants an eye-popping 190K miles and 90K INR cash on Skywards, while you can book the same ticket in cash with about INR 230K or so when booking sufficiently in advance.
On the other hand, the same ticket with Alaska Airlines miles would cost you 165K Miles and about $100 (USD 7200). So it makes much more sense to buy Alaska Airlines miles if your Emirates route is available on Alaska Airlines.
On the other hand Emirates miles make a lot of sense if you are trying to upgrade on Emirates flights on a revenue ticket.
Are you going to buy Emirates Skywards miles in the current promotion?
Hey Ajay,
I have some europre trip plans ( BLR-Budapest), wondering if I should buy this in advance. Would you know if buying miles will also up my membership tier? I plan to shuttle some luggage, so gold tier could come in handy. Thanks.
