Get oneworld Emerald status in one trip!

Malaysia Airlines is one of the smaller airlines in the oneworld alliance when compared to American Airlines, Cathay Pacific and British Airways. But as a member of oneworld, their status counts across all the member carriers. So, if you are a Malaysia Airlines Enrich Gold or Platinum, you also are a oneworld Sapphire or Emerald tier member. A new Enrich promotion launched very recently seems to be making it very easy to get oneworld status.

The new offer gets Malaysia Airlines Enrich members 3X elite miles and elite sectors (qualifying flights). To participate in this promotion you’d have to book a Malaysia Airlines flight before October 15, 2018, for travel through March 31, 2019. Keep in mind that you’ll have to be flying on Malaysia Airlines metal to earn these extra miles. You can read the rest of the terms here.

The best way to maximise this promotion is to travel long haul. You’d need 1,00,000 status miles a year to qualify for the top tier. Compare that to flying 130 elite sectors in a calendar year to attain the same! With some smart routing, you can easily achieve this tier with just one flight!

One of the combinations you can look at, for instance, is the London-Kuala Lumpur-Taipei route in Business class. If you made a round trip on this route on any other day, you’d get around 34,400 elite miles. Through this promotion, that number goes over to 1,03,000 status miles! Sounds exciting? You can do this for GBP 3,661.

Will you be using this promotion? What are the other creative uses of this new Malaysia Airlines promotion?

  1. @DavidB, no one stated getting 1million EQMs. our computation says just over 100K as well. Are you sure you are not getting foxed by the number of Zeros!

  2. Can you please explain how you get 1,000,000+ EQMs. If the normal mileage is about 34,000 and I get triple mileage (x3), the number I get is just over 100,000 EQMs. What am I missing? Shouldn’t top tier elite require 100,000 EQMs as in most other OW programs, not 1 million?
