Club Vistara pauses issuing ticket vouchers to co-brand card holders

With the ongoing CoronaVirus and grounding of airlines across India, airlines and loyalty programmes are having to keep their flock together. After all, these are the people who should be coming back to them for a flight first, after the crisis gets over. Over the last week, Club Vistara took a raft of measures towards protecting their frequent flyer base. The entire range of moves and the impact is explained in a separate post.

As a part of Vistara’s tie-up with Axis Bank, Club Vistara also issues free flight ticket vouchers (base-fare waiver) on reaching certain thresholds. The same way, the SBI Card tie-up of Club Vistara also has provisions for milestone tickets. While people are sitting at home, spending does not stop for them. For Vistara, this means they have to issue a free-ticket code every time a milestone is crossed.

Club Vistara has notified its partner Axis Bank now, that these vouchers are temporarily being stopped. Here is a message that has gone out to all Club Vistara Axis Bank co-brand card customers.

Dear Axis Bank Vistara Credit Cardholder, due to the current lockdown, issuance of Vistara flight ticket vouchers is temporarily on hold. However, spends on your card will continue to contribute towards milestone ticket eligibility & you will continue to earn CV Points basis eligible spends. Stay Safe!

There is no timeline as to when the voucher issuance will start again. And I would imagine a similar arrangement would also be in place for SBI Card cobrand cardholders.

Bottomline

This is actually a good move from the airline. Since no one can fly at the moment, therefore it is best that these vouchers be issued at a time they can be utilised. So, vouchers delayed but vouchers not denied.
