Changes to Breakfast at the Park Hyatt Maldives

In my 5 years at BoardingArea, one of the most discussed things I’ve witnessed is the breakfast provided to those who choose to stay at the Park Hyatt Maldives. As a quick recap, breakfast is included in the price for those on a paid stay at the hotel, and for Hyatt Gold Passport Diamonds at the hotel. Others need to pay a marginal $ cost for breakfast (read non-Diamond Hyatt members redeeming points)

Breakfast at the Park Hyatt Maldives is undergoing a change at the moment. During my stay this past weekend, we noticed that the tower that both Ben and Gary talk about often, has been discontinued since August 2015. Instead, there is a buffet that is lined up for residents, which includes bakery items, fresh cut fruits, cereal options and cold cut meats to start you up on breakfast. Think of it like a continental breakfast spread.

There is also a choice of hot-off-the-griddle items everyday. A couple of days we saw pancakes being tossed out and about, and on the final day, there was a Dosa station, so we went for one of those. When a man from Madurai makes those for you, you can be sure they were good Dosas!

The waitstaff get you started on your breakfast with a much shorter menu than the ones you would have seen earlier. Essentially, they have moved a lot of the stuff from the earlier breakfast offerings to the buffet, and look to offer the hot items still directly from the kitchen. All the set menus are gone, and you can now choose from the a-la-carte options which are listed below:

We chatted up with the Executive Chef about these changes, and he told us that a lot of guests wanted fresher food and that preparing the towers and having them ready did not give them the freshness that was desired. Also, with the buffet, you could have as much as you required rather than be limited to the quantity served on the canapé tower.

New hot dishes coming soon!

One of the things that we owe one to the chef for is to help us sample some of their latest creations which are expected to be served to guests from next month onwards. As an example, here are the Hadahaa Chilli Eggs, which we sampled even before the GM of the hotel did, and found them to be fantastic and spicy hot! The Hadahaa chillies grown on the island itself were just the perfect hot to spice up on your tongue but not cause any untoward after effects in your tummy! And a lovely bed of avocado to boot!

We also managed to try out the detox eggs, served on a bed of spinach, which are for those of you who’d like your breakfast healthy!

The resort is surely keeping up with the times with new stuff on the menu, and I can confess, I did love the Hadahaa Chilli Eggs very much and I hope you can all have them for breakfast during your stay at the resort!

  1. Do you recall what the cost of breakfast is if you’re staying on points and are not a Diamond? Does the cost include the buffet spread, and a certain number of a la carte items? Thanks!
