Cathay Pacific has extended Marco Polo Club elite status into 2022

Cathay Pacific has rolled out a status extension for the elite Marco Polo Club members, in the process, extending another year of elite benefits for them due to the CoVid-19 pandemic and the fact that operations mostly are grounded for the airline at the moment.

Cathay Pacific Status Extension 2021

Cathay Pacific has provided all their elite status holding members, including those who had their status extended in 2020 for one-year. Cathay Pacific had last year, extended the status of everyone who had elite status expiring between May 2020 and April 2021. This will mean many members would have received 2 years status without flying enough to earn it, and some will get a one-year status boost.

The airline will also extend any mid-tier benefits that will expire between May and December 2021, such as lounge passes or flight upgrades, for a further 12 months after they expire.

Here is the communication rolled out by Cathay Pacific to members on email to announce this change.

Bottomline

It won’t be long before other airlines realise that their members won’t be flying enough in 2021 as well, and raise an extension. Cathay Pacific has already stepped on the gas, and I hope others follow suite soon! Emirates and Qatar Airways have already extended members status currently, and so has Singapore Airlines, which is perhaps the influence on Cathay Pacific extending their elite status for now.
