While it is all quiet on the flying front at the moment, Mumbai Airport is working towards re-opening in a post-CoVid-19 lockdown world, an era where social distancing will be the norm. Here are some pictures and what to expect the next time you turn up to fly from Mumbai Airport.
Emirates is getting together more resources to process the refunds of over half a million trips which were cancelled due to the CoronaVirus. Even then, refund processing is expected to last till August 2020.
Boeing, over the past 24 hours, has cancelled a deal to purchase 80% of Embraer’s commercial aviation business as the timelines to close the deal expired yesterday. Embraer states that it was ready to close the deal but it was wrongfully terminated.
Emirates Commercial flights are planned to be resumed on July 1 for the moment. However, Emirates has put in place new service protocols which involve strictly no meals except on long-haul flights (repacked) and social distancing measures. No cabin bags allowed as well.
Aviointeriors, an Italian seat maker, has filed for a patent on a new radical design of seats (for economy class!) which promises to protect from CoVid-19, and perhaps even making conversation with a pesky neighbour on the plane.

Airbus has now started e-delivering aircraft. That does not mean the aircraft are flying themselves home, but it does mean the customer no longer has to be setting up a shop inside Airbus to collect each and every plane of theirs.

All the airlines operating inside India, as well as operating flights to India, have been told to stop the sale of flights to/from/within India till further notice, to make sure that the airlines won’t be able to take new reservations for the time being.
The time to EFFECTIVELY regulate the airlines is now, but unfortunately, they are getting a free hand at doing a lot of things which they should not be doing at the moment. Consumer protection is not how it should have been during the times of CoVid-19.
Air India has opened up reservations for flights abroad from June 1, 2020. This may be indicative of the timeline when most airlines will be able to actually open up future international flights in line with getting over with CoVid-19. Social Distancing on the plane will be practiced on the plane as well.
