Buy JPMiles with 50% bonus, 2 days only!

JetPrivilege has been running sales for JPMiles almost all this year, and they have usually focussed on a 40% bonus on miles purchased. In the same line of thinking, they launched another flash sale in August to sell miles with an up to 40% bonus on purchased miles.

The promotion is valid through August 31, 2016. JetPrivilege usually sells JPMiles at INR 1.25 per mile, and adds on a 15% tax on top, making the final price at INR 1.4375. You need to buy a minimum of 500 miles. This time around as well, the promotion is graded:

  • Buy 3,000 JPMiles onwards: 10% bonus
  • Buy 10,000 JPMiles onwards: 20% bonus
  • Buy 20,000 JPMiles onwards: 30% bonus
  • Buy 30,000 JPMiles onwards: 40% bonus

At that price, at the top end, you get miles at INR 1.027 per mile. But some members have received a new mailer perhaps yesterday, taking their offer up to 50%. The new promotion is valid for everyone making at least 3000 JPMiles, and you get another 10% bonus miles on top of your existing purchase.

What this means is…

    • Buy 3,000 JPMiles onwards: 20% bonus
    • Buy 10,000 JPMiles onwards: 30% bonus
    • Buy 20,000 JPMiles onwards: 40% bonus
    • Buy 30,000 JPMiles onwards: 50% bonus

Which means, at the top end, the price of purchase goes down to 96 paise per mile.

Any good?

If you are low on JPMiles and intend to stock up, this may be a good time to do so speculatively. However, with fares being at new lows, I would imagine it would be also good to buy your tickets for the same price or perhaps lesser. With a 6 figure balance on my account, I am not looking at this promotion just now, but you should crunch your numbers and maybe see if it works for you. For last minute trips, they can be a boon. But if you plan ahead, they maybe not as good as you think they are.

  1. Even at 96p per mile, I don’t see buying miles economical in any way. Mile redemption from Delhi to Mumbai Economy class is 12k miles, which would mean paying 11.5k for a one way ticket (tax around 1k extra), when buying it with cash is just 4k. Similar for business class.

  2. Does this promotion work if I get my HDFC Diners Club Premium Reward points converted into JP Miles?

eg – If I get converted 20,000 points into 14,000 JP Miles, will I get an additional 30% bonus thereon?
