British Airways, flying through the pandemic, has taken some safeguards earlier on, which included knocking off a full meal service on their flights. Till so far, people were getting a small polybag filled with a small bottle of water, a sandwich and chocolate, even in Business Class & First Class.
However, British Airways has upgraded its temporary catering now, and this will go into effect from June 16, 2020, onwards. The upgrade to catering will also bring back drinks service, which was temporarily discontinued. Meals in all cabins will be presented in Do&Co boxes, which is a huge step-up from the current temporary, temporary catering.
Customers travelling to a long haul destination will be offered pre-prepared meal boxes including dishes such as a salad, hot entrée or sandwich, served with a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Snacks will also be available between meals. On longer flights, a second meal will be served.
Here are some examples of British Airways’ new meal service, which will start showing up on flights from June 16, 2020.
BA First Meal service (Long Haul)
In First Class, BA passengers will be presented with a meal that is closer to the earlier meal service (pre-CoVid-19). Meal elements will include starters, mains, salad and desserts.
BA Club World Meal service (Long Haul)
In Club World (Business Class), BA passengers will be presented with a meal that is closer to the earlier meal service (pre-CoVid-19). Meal elements will include starters, mains, salad and desserts. Breakfast will also be served on some flights.
BA World Traveller/Plus Meal service (Long Haul)
In World Traveller & World Traveller Plus (Premium Economy and Economy), everyone will get a small snack and the main box. Mains would include a savoury pastry, a salad, a mousse and water.
BA Meal service (Short Haul)
Customers travelling to a short-haul destination in BA’s business-class cabin, Club Europe, will also be offered a pre-prepared meal, such as salad or sandwich with a selection of beverages.
Those customers travelling in BA’s economy cabin, Euro Traveller, will be offered a complimentary snack, such as crisps, and a bottle of water.
British Airways’ spokesperson for the Asia Pacific told us, “Like all airlines, we had to make temporary adjustments to our onboard catering while we worked on a new solution with our catering suppliers that follows guidance from regulators, minimising interactions between our customers and crew”. Further, they elaborated, “As we navigate our way through these unprecedented times, we will continue to take advice from relevant authorities and incorporate this into the development of our onboard experience.”
What do you think of British Airways’ new catering services on board which will be around for a while?
