Behind the Scenes with Etihad, who is using their downtime to fix everything

Etihad, with its 100-strong aircraft fleet, has most of its fleet grounded since March 25, 2020, after the UAE grounded their civil aviation operators due to the CoVid-19 outbreak. A few Etihad aircraft are being used at the moment for repatriation flights, and the cargo freighters are at work, but mostly, you will see them all on the ground.

Etihad Airways is taking full advantage of the aircraft downtime as a result of the CoVid-19 global pandemic to conduct extensive maintenance and cabin refresh programme. Etihad states that they have taken this time to replace 10,000 seat covers and overhauled their cabins, with 200 people working in shifts to get this done.

The statement that stands out for me is from Hathyam Nasir, the Vice President of Airframe Services, “When our aircraft go back into service, for the passenger it will be like getting on to a brand new aircraft.”
There you have it, folks. A brand new plane for the next time you fly. Courtesy Etihad.
