American Express is just about getting ready for the holiday season at the moment. In this, they partner with all the major hotel chains. Earlier in the year, they partnered with Hyatt and Hilton Hotels for offering statement credits. They also ran Hilton and Marriott Transfer bonuses of 50% recently. Now, American Express is offering 25% statement credits on Marriott stays in select countries. This new promotion is showing up in the Amex Offers in your personal Amex website, and you need to log in to see the details and if you have been targeted. The promotion showed up on my American Express Gold Charge Card, but not on Shipra’s Platinum Charge Card.
The new promotion is valid for Marriott Hotel stays in select countries paid for at Marriott.com, on the app, or at the Front office of the respective hotels. Participating properties are located in the following countries, excluding any Marriott Vacation Club properties:
- India
- Thailand
- Japan
- Singapore
- Australia
- Hong Kong
- New Zealand
Overall, about 250 properties are participating. The complete list is here. There are two versions of this promotion being targetted to members:
- Spend a cumulative amount of INR 20,000 in INR and Forex at the participating hotels, and get INR 5,000 as a statement credit.
- Spend a cumulative amount of INR 30,000 in INR and Forex at the participating hotels, and get INR 7,500 as a statement credit.
Eligible spends include incidentals, as long as they were charged to your room and paid at the front desk upon check-out. Further, payments for stays outside India would be charged in the local currencies, but the minimum spend would be counted in INR. You can stay anytime, but the payment needs to be closed by December 31, 2019.
Further, the T&C expressly disallow for a cashback on gift cards purchased online, or for bookings made via third parties such as an OTA. The INR 5,000/7,500 statement credit will be rewarded one time only. The statement credit should appear on your billing statement within five business days from qualifying spend but may take up to 90 days from the offer end date of December 31, 2019.
The statement credit is valid, amongst others, on the following American Express Cards:

- American Express Gold Charge Card
- American Express Platinum Charge Card

I checked and have this offer on my Amex JetAirways Platinum Card to spend Rs 20000 or more and get Rs. 5000 as cashback. Wish there was some official communication from Amex regarding this offer. I completed a stay with Marriott just a few days ago.
Worth nothing that if you’re a Marriott Elite you already get 20% off on F&B so you can double dip this for effectively 40% off.

I checked with AMEX customer care. They’re saying it’s valid only for Charge Card holders that too selective users and not all.
I even told her, there are users who have Membership Rewards Card who have got the offer but she hesitantly said, it’s not possible as it’s only for selective Charge Card Holders.
What a shame!
