When it comes to the recent promotions, American Express has been clearly ahead of the curve, making it a point to engage with their cardmembers via various promotions such as the double points on Platinum tier credit cards and every day spend offer and Double Points offer for most cardmembers. Just recently, they also launched the utility payment offer which gets you up to 3,000 points per month on utilities spend, which is otherwise a non-earning category.
American Express has moved into one more category to make sure the Amex cards are preferred currency when it comes to payments. Amex is not new to the category and is back with another new promotion for spending on education this time around.
American Express offering 3X Membership Rewards points for Educational Spends
Under the new Amex promotion, which has been rolled out to a select set of customers, American Express is offering the following set of cardmembers 6 Membership Rewards points per INR 100 spent:
- American Express Platinum Reserve Credit Card
- American Express Platinum Travel Credit Card
- American Express Gold Card
- American Express Membership Rewards Credit Card
- American Express SmartEarn Credit Card
- American Express Gold Credit Card
- American Express Green Card
- Air India American Express Gold Card
- RPM Credit Card from American Express & HPCL
These cardmembers can earn 3X Membership Rewards Points between July 10 and August 10, for paying educational spends with their Amex cards. You need to be targetted for the offer by American Express.
You need to spend INR 25,000 or more on educational spends in this period to get the triple Membership Rewards Points up to a maximum of 3,000 bonus Membership Rewards points. Education spends mean only those spends which are incurred directly towards Education Institute/s through American Express Cards for fees & ancillary related services. The promotion maxes out at INR 75,000 spend on education during this one month period. Full T&C Here.
To be able to get these points, you will need to pay your fees directly and not via an aggregator such as PayTM or Amazon Pay since wallet payments won’t be eligible for Membership Rewards under the offer. Membership Rewards Points will be credited to Cardmember’s account by October 31, 2020
Bottomline
This is another great promotion from American Express. It seems American Express is working in overdrive at the moment to engage with customers and keep them happy, while other banks are just sleeping at the wheel at least for Credit Card spends and engagement.
What do you think of the new American Express promotion for educational spends?

Ajay, will they have something for insurance too? i have some big premium payment coming up in a few weeks….
I wonder how many educational institution accept credit card, forget American express
@Subhash many do. Last year Amex had circulated a list about over 4000 institutions that accept Amex. It must have only grown now.
Even if the schools colleges accept amex, i wonder how many people are paying the fee when schools will not open atleast this year and online teaching is a joke right now
@Arjun, for those who want their kids to study, they will be paying, right? “Online teaching is a joke or not” is a topic to be discussed on parents Whatsapp Groups, not on a website dedicated to travel and credit cards.
