Alaska Airlines Buy Miles with up to 50% Bonus Miles

Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan is one of my favourite mileage programmes for many reasons, but one of them is their frequent sales which provide umpteen opportunities to buy miles. There is also great value in their redemptions.

Alaska Airlines currently has an ongoing flash sale for miles, which is on offer through March 15, 2023, 11:59 PM PT. Alaska Airlines, this time around, is offering tiered bonuses to every account. You can receive up to a 50% Bonus when you buy miles with this promotion.

Here is the top offer I received:

  • Buy 3,000-9,000 miles, and get a 30% bonus.
  • Buy 10,000-29,000 miles, and get a 40% bonus.
  • Buy 30,000+ miles, and get a 50% bonus.

If I were to go through with the top end of my promotion, I could buy 150,000 miles at the cost of 2956.25 USD, which is 1.97 US Cents / INR 1.61 per Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan mile.

The maximum number of miles you can purchase per transaction is 100,000 before bonuses and 150,000 per calendar year. If you have Alaska Airlines elite status, you don’t have any limits to worry about in terms of the number of miles you can buy. Remember, you can buy miles more than once. All you need is an Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan account more than ten days old.

Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan is a member of the oneworld alliance, so you can redeem it on other member airlines. However, Alaska Airlines has some great partners redemptions, which work in Asia as well as Europe and the Americas. Some of their partners I like are:

Here is the full list of Alaska Airlines partners:

  • Aer Lingus
  • Air Tahiti Nui
  • American Airlines
  • British Airways
  • Cathay Pacific
  • Condor
  • EL AL
  • Fiji Airways
  • Finnair
  • Hainan Airlines
  • Iberia
  • Icelandair
  • Japan Airlines
  • Korean Air
  • Malaysia Airlines
  • Qantas
  • Qatar Airways
  • Royal Air Maroc
  • Royal Jordanian
  • Singapore Airlines
  • SriLankan Airlines

Alaska Airlines has enabled awards on Singapore Airlines but eliminated stopovers on awards within Asia. However, they do allow complimentary stopovers on one-way awards otherwise. For instance, if you are flying from New York to Delhi on Qatar Airways, feel free to make a stop in Doha for a few days if you so wish. Or, flying Singapore Airlines from the USA to India, feel free to stop in Singapore on the way back.

There are some significant redemptions you can make with your Alaska Airlines Miles:

  • India to the USA on Japan Airlines Business Class for 60,000 Miles
  • India to Europe on Singapore Airlines First Class for 160,000 Miles (Suites all the way)
  • India to Japan on Singapore Airlines Business Class for 65,000 Miles
  • India to Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific Business Class for 30,000 Miles.

You should use an American Express Platinum Charge Card or a Citi Prestige or an Axis Bank Reserve Credit Card because the purchase will be processed in US Dollars by Points.Com, and this way, you get bonus points for your purchase due to it being an international purchase.

Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan has one week to go for their latest promotion on the purchase of miles. There are many great uses of the Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan. Ultimately crunch the numbers before making a purchase. You can use them on oneworld member airlines, as well as other carriers such as LATAM, Singapore Airlines, Air Tahiti Nui and others.
