Akasa’s new QuietNights commitment

I haven’t had the opportunity to write about this earlier, but Akasa is onto something remarkable here. A couple of weeks ago, Akasa announced that they would reduce the number of announcements they would make on night flights, and this is the first time I’ve heard something like this.

Akasa’s new QuietNight Commitment

On an aircraft, there are a tonne of announcements happening, but the ones most essential are the ones around safety (safety briefings) and the descent notifications, apart from anything else that might come from the cockpit around weather etc. However, there are a lot of other messages also that turn up on the public announcement system nowadays. For instance, the cabin crew in the US will try to sell you a credit card. In other countries, they will try to sell you meals, and so on.

On the other hand, Akasa, launched in 2022, has now taken a counterposition on the subject. Akasa Air has introduced QuietFlights to ensure a restful and comfortable inflight experience for passengers travelling during early morning and late-night hours. For flights operating between 10 PM and 6 AM, the airline will minimise announcements to essential safety messages and adjust cabin lighting to create a calming environment, Akasa said recently, allowing passengers to enjoy a more relaxing flight.

Akasa has several red-eye flights, which should benefit from this. For instance, there are flights between Mumbai and Ahmedabad at about 1:30 AM.

On this, Belson Coutinho, Co-Founder and Chief Marketing & Experience Officer of Akasa Air, said

At Akasa, we value the importance of privacy and peace of mind while flying, and we are pleased to introduce ‘QuietFlights’. This new initiative reinforces our commitment to create a comfortable, relaxed and peaceful cabin experience.

In today’s fast-paced day-to-day lifestyle, QuietFlights has been consciously designed to help passengers unwind with announcements minimised to the essential safety announcements combined with ambient cabin lighting that creates a calming inflight experience.

This is some good thinking by Akasa Air. Even though they don’t have the scale right now, they are building some great features they are building, such as their meals, the pet offering, and now this.

Bottomline

Akasa has launched a new feature, where they dim the lights and keep the announcements to the bare minimum, for those who are on their flights between 10 PM and 6 AM. They brand these QuietFlights.

What do you think of the new addition to the features at Akasa?

  1. Awesome feature!

They’re sub-scale, but trying hard to build differentiation.
I’m sure there will be appreciation for this. Whether this affinity leads to greater business (or margin / yield) is not known, but good to see some company trying to set itself apart on experience parameters. More power to them.
