Akasa Air was all set to launch its international operations with the addition of the 20th aircraft in 2023, which has to be the quickest launch for an airline internationally. Earlier, one needed to have five years of operations and 20 aircraft in their fleet to be eligible for International operations; however, the guidelines now only require the airline to have 20 aircraft. Akasa closed 2023 with a fleet of 22 aircraft, just 17 months after launching operations.

Akasa launches international operations with a flight to Doha.

Akasa announced the launch of its international operations on February 16, 2024. The first route for the airline’s international operations is between Mumbai and Doha. Today, Akasa launched its operations to Doha with four non-stop flights four times a week.

The inaugural flight departed Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in Mumbai at 1745 IST and arrived at Hamad International Airport in Doha at 1940hrs AST on March 28, 2024. The flight was operated by an all-women operating crew of two pilots and five cabin crew.

In an event held at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport to flag off the maiden flight, a ceremonial lamp was lit in the presence of members of the Akasa executive committee: Neelu Khatri, Ankur Goel, Belson Coutinho, and Bhavin Joshi.

Travellers from other Indian cities such as Ahmedabad, Goa, Varanasi, Lucknow, Bengaluru, Kochi, and Delhi will have connecting options to travel to and from Doha via Mumbai.

Other international operations for Akasa Air will include Kuwait, Jeddah, and Riyadh, where Akasa already holds the rights to launch operations soon.

Bottomline

Akasa launched international operations on March 28, 2024, with its first flight between Mumbai and Doha, Qatar. The flight will be operated 4x weekly with an all-economy Boeing 737 8. Akasa also has the right to launch flights to Kuwait, Jeddah, and Riyadh; we should expect these flights later in the year.
