Akasa’s inflight product

There were a lot of questions asked and a lot of internet time wasted on what would Akasa’s inflight product look like. Akasa CEO/MD Vinay Dube told us to wait a few more days when we talked to him in June 2022. Now, we still don’t know it all, but here is the first look at the seats. And they are not bright orange as some folks thought they would be. Instead, they are purple. It also looks like Akasa did not go all ultra-low cost after all. Each seat has a headrest, which means these sure are not the lightest seats in the sky. But I’ll take it for my own comfort. There will also be softer seat cushions.

Also, Akasa has setback USB charging on all seats, which is a win for the customers who want to charge their phones on board.

Akasa’s inflight meal service

Akasa is coming in with a range of offerings for their inflight menu. Café Akasa, as the inflight meal service will be called, will serve up a wide choice of meals, including unique and varied items and farm-inspired, plant-based nutritious menus curated by reputed chefs from across India. Quality fusion meal offerings are inspired by Indian cuisine and cater to all taste buds with unique year-round festival menus and industry-first meals and beverages like pour and serve pasta, Vietnamese rice rolls and hot chocolate.

Here are all the fresh options, which are going to be available on pre-booking only. If you want to pick a meal on board, it would be the dehydrated meal options which everyone else is serving up.

On the occasion of the launch, Vinay Dube, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Akasa Air said,

We are extremely excited to finally be able to offer up our flights for sale. We are also excited to reveal our product which promises to be unlike anything experienced in the category thus far. With Akasa employees providing warm and efficient customer service, a reliable and dependable network, and affordable fares – we look forward to serving our customers with a flying experience that I am sure they will find delightful.

Commenting on Akasa Air’s network expansion plans, Praveen Iyer, Co-founder and Chief Commercial Officer Akasa Air said

Akasa Air’s network strategy is focused on establishing a strong pan-India presence and providing linkages from metro to tier 2 and tier 3 cities across the country. We kick-start operations with flights between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, with the brand-new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. We will adopt a phased approach to support our network expansion plans, progressively connecting more cities, as we add two aircraft to our fleet each month, in our first year.

Describing the experience that passengers flying with Akasa Air can expect, Belson Coutinho, Co-founder and Chief Marketing and Experiences Officer, Akasa Air said,

We want to be a compassionate airline with a focus on being dependable, warm, efficient, and reliable. We will provide our passengers with category-first product choices and a happy travel experience which is tech-forward, inclusive, environmentally progressive – all in the Akasa way.

Bottomline

Akasa Air is ready for its first flight effective August 7, 2022. Flights will launch between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, to be followed by Bengaluru and Kochi. More sectors will follow. On board, Akasa will provide more comfort compared to the other no-frill carriers, supported by a huge onboard meals menu which contains fresh offerings as well.
