It was not too long ago that there was a spate of new airlines coming into India, which everyone was cheering upon. WOW Air launched a 10 hour non-stop to Delhi, and Air Italy began full-service flights to Delhi and Mumbai. All of these flights came to India just in December 2018.
Then, the other shoe dropped and WOW Air ended up cutting their flights from Delhi after they did not have any planes left to operate that trip (funny they still haven’t officially announced an exit but have stopped having Delhi as a destination). Now, this morning, Air Italy decided to pull the plug on the Air Italy Flight to Mumbai, as well as Delhi. I can totally get it, they have had to sell these flights at INR 29K fares, which is a bargain, and they don’t seem to be able to get pricing power on this segment at all.
Air Italy had decided to launch the Mumbai – Milan – Mumbai flights five times a week in October 2018. However, they began the flights only in December 2018, and that too, only three times a week. As of February 17, 2019, Air Italy will be discontinuing their 5 3 times a week A330-200 flight to Mumbai. February 17, 2019, will be their last flight to Mumbai. Flight sales have accordingly been pulled from their website as well.
Not just that, Air Italy will also discontinue their flights to Delhi in April 2019. The Delhi flights were also announced to be launched in October 2018 but were only started in December 2018 with a significant cut on capacity, making it only three flights a week.
As of March 31, 2019, Air Italy will be discontinuing their 5 3 times a week A330-200 flight to Delhi. So, March 30, 2019, will be their last flight to Delhi. Flight sales have accordingly been pulled from their website as well.
It is unfortunate that Air Italy’s India innings were so shortlived and they are going away so soon.
If you have a reservation with Air Italy, now is the time to take a raincheck on those plans while the airline should be calling affected parties soon anyways.
Does the Air Italy cancellation affect you?
They didnt price well. I remember having researched a lot for that sector and their fares were not competitive and baggage allowance was not poor. Ended up bookign Oman as it was a much better deal even if not direct.
I came from JFK to Mumbai on January 19
My return tickets date is March 8th but they stop flying from Mumbai and now no one is giving me good answer for arrangements for me to how to go back to New York
I don’t understand why no one contacted me for this issue
Is anyone going through this setuation

I travelled by Air Italy from Mumbai on January 4, 2019. As every airline, they assign 3rd party at the check-in counter and it was so slow that we had to stand for 1 hour just to check-in.
But other than that, it was a great flight. The food was really good. Way much better than Air India & even Jet Airways. The staff was good and they were courteous to give drinks and food whenever you needed. Also the seats were good enough with USB and Power socket for charging your laptop.
Overall it was a good airline for direct flights from Bombay to Milan. I feel sad that now we don’t have a direct flight for this route.
What do you expect? It is owned by Qatar Airways! Expect excellent, if not the very best.
I guess they just weren’t getting the number of passengers they needed to make the flight work.
