Air India to launch flights between Delhi and Zurich in June 2024; doubles flights to Phuket

Air India has been progressively increasing its network to keep up with its business plan of global expansion from India, rather than having Indian travellers fly one-stop to destinations in Europe and the USA. Some of the new routes announced recently by Air India include flights to Phuket and Ho Chi Minh City.

Air India to launch flights to Zurich in June 2024

Air India’s flights into Europe currently have the following destinations: Amsterdam, Vienna, Paris CDG, Copenhagen, Frankfurt and Milan in Continental Europe, London (Heathrow and Gatwick) and Birmingham in the United Kingdom.  Air India currently operates 60 weekly flights to and from the six cities in mainland Europe. Now, Air India intends to add another name to that list within a few days.

Air India will launch a non-stop service between Delhi and Zurich effective June 16, 2024, marking the airline’s entry into Switzerland. The airline will use its two-cabin Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft to operate the route four times a week.

Air India’s new service will provide travellers in Switzerland, as well as those in southern Germany and western Austria with a non-stop option to travel to Delhi, and onward to destinations across Air India’s growing route network, particularly in the Indian Subcontinent, Southeast Asia, and Australia. Here is the schedule of the flight.

The schedule enables travellers to conveniently connect to Air India’s flights from Delhi to popular destinations, such as Bangkok, Colombo, Dhaka, Ho Chi Minh City, Kathmandu, Melbourne, Phuket, Singapore, and Sydney, amongst others.

On the occasion of announcing the flight, Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer, Air India, said

This new route strengthens the ties between India and Switzerland, which are not only major trading partners, but also boast a vibrant exchange of people. With over 250 Swiss companies operating in India, hundreds of Indian companies in Switzerland, and a growing Indian diaspora of nearly 18,000, these flights will cater to a strong demand for business and leisure travel in both directions.

Switzerland, a consistently top-ranking European destination for Indian tourists, will now be even more accessible, with these flights further solidifying the economic and cultural bridges between the two nations.

Air India Adds 6x weekly flights between Delhi and Phuket

Not just that, Air India also added a second flight between Delhi and Phuket which will operate six times a week, also on June 1, 2024. This flight will operate on all days except Wednesday.

Timed to maximise connections, the second service to Phuket will offer travellers a convenient late-morning departure from Delhi, helping to link guests arriving from Europe with the popular beach destination. Since launching service to Phuket four times a week in December 2023, Air India increased frequency to make it a daily service in January 2024, and will now operate nearly double daily flights.
