Good News: Air India drops prices for Vande Bharat flights to UK, US and Canada in Phase 4

When the Government of India launched the Vande Bharat flights, the prices were found to be very high. While the full list of fares was published by us here, here is the list of fares to flights to Europe and the Americas, which were priced at 2-3X by many accounts from the usual commercial fare.

Air India Special Flights Price List

Yesterday, I noticed how the fares had started to go down in Phase 4. So, I asked around on Twitter and got enough data points to find out about how the flights are actually cheaper in Phase 4.

Here are some of the new prices for Vande Bharat Mission flights we have now been able to find out:

  • India/UK or v.v.: INR 38-40K (GBP 450) instead of INR 50K+ (GBP 550) in VBM Phase 1,2,3 for economy class and Business Class priced at GBP 850 instead of GBP 1400 earlier.
  • India/Canada or v.v.: INR 75K (CAD 1365) instead of INR 137K+ (CAD 2430) in VBM Phase 1,2,3 for economy class.
  • India/US or v.v.: USD 1000 instead of USD 1370 in VBM Phase 1,2,3 for economy class.

Sources inside Air India confirmed that some of these high fares were being used to subsidise flights to the middle-east, a sector which has been passed on to private operators in Phase 4. Hence the fares were dropped. This is great news for those who are still due to get back to India.

What do you make of Air India’s reduction of fares on some sectors for the Vande Bharat flights?
