Air India Phuket to Delhi flight returns to Phuket after Bomb Threat

As I mentioned earlier, when it rains it pours. But in this case, the pouring fortunately was a hoax. Yesterday, we saw Air India’s Boeing 787-8 crash right outside Ahmedabad Airport, and then this morning, the airline had to divert 16 long/ultra-long haul flights to protect them from the Israel/Iran standoff.

Air India flight makes emergency landing in Phuket

An Air India flight, AI 379, took off this morning at 9:30 AM local time, only to receive an onboard bomb threat, and made an emergency landing back at Phuket a few moments later. All 156 passengers on flight AI379 had been escorted from the plane, in line with emergency plans, as per Airports of Thailand (AOT)

The aircraft took off from Phuket airport bound for the capital, but made a wide loop around the Andaman Sea and landed back on the southern Thai island, according to Flightradar24. The plane took off again after 6.5 hours and is currently en route to Delhi.

The image is a screenshot from Flightradar24 showing the playback of flight AI379. The map displays the flight path over a coastal region, with the path marked in different colors indicating various segments of the flight. The flight is from Phuket (HKT) to Delhi (DEL). The information panel below the map provides details such as the great circle distance (3,174 km), average flight time (4:11), and aircraft type (Airbus A320-251N). The aircraft's registration is VT-TQA. The map shows the flight's trajectory, which includes loops and turns near the coast.

Bottomline

Air India saw its flight AI369 receive a bomb threat, and the plane, operating from Phuket to Delhi, made an emergency landing back in Phuket, with everyone being escorted off the plane. Once the investigation was made and the plane to be found secure, the airline finally is operating the flight again, albeit over six hours late.
