Air India Express and its crew negotiate peace; operations might be back on track soon

It seems things might be on their way back to normal soon at Air India Express, after the cancellation of over 150 flights over two consecutive days.

Air India Express is one of the only airlines in India which has staff which can participate in labour unions, with the other airline being Air India. In the case of Air India Express Cabin Crew, they were being represented by the Air India Express Employees Union. There was a meeting called for at the office of the Chief Labour Commissioner at New Delhi, where representatives from Air India Express as well as the employees union sat across each other.

Air India Express to reinstate all employees who were terminated.

Air India Express, after the four hour long meeting, confirmed that it would reinstate all the 25 cabin crew who were let go yesterday. Additionally, the airline will address the grievances of the cabin crew internally, they committed.

Honestly, this was on expected lines, except the meeting in the offices of the government. Air India Express moved the goalpost from the perspective of employees, who wanted their demands addressed, to having their jobs back. It was never in question that the airline was not going to give them their jobs back, but now, that became the only thing everyone talked about, rather than all the issues on hand.

In the meantime, it will be a day or few before the airline can iron out the schedules and have their schedules aligned again.

Bottomline

Air India Express is going to have all their terminated employees back in their fold, and all the others who were striking in the garb of medical leave will also return to work immediately. The airline will solve the employee matters internally, it has assured.

What do you make of the ongoing chaos at Air India Express?
