We have covered the Air India and Air India Express story over the past three years, both following the merger and before it, since the project went live. In October 2023, Air India unveiled its new livery and flew its first flight with the updated branding on the same night.

Air India Express New Livery Reveal in October 2023
From there, significant work has been underway in the background, with Air India Express inducting new aircraft from Boeing at a breakneck speed. These aircraft were initially designated for Chinese airlines, but due to the political tensions between the USA and China, they were never delivered to the Chinese carriers. Air India picked up 50 of these for Air India Express, apart from another 140 737 MAXes, which remain to be delivered to Air India Express.
One of the ongoing issues with these jets is that they have been put into service as is, with the livery repainted, but the interiors remaining the same. Some of them even fly in their original Chinese carrier livery and then are repainted in India. Or sometimes they fly without a livery, till they get a spot in the paint shop.

Air India Express reveals its new interiors and new crew uniform with a new ad campaign.
I’ve already praised Air India Express (including AirAsia India) for their in-flight meals a long time ago. The airlines have been undergoing a merger, which was legally completed in November 2024. The airline has a mixed fleet, with 50 737 MAX aircraft as of now, 26 B737-800 aircraft, 22 A320ceo aircraft, 12 A320neo aircraft (a large number of these transferred from Vistara in the mono-class configuration) and 4 A321neos (with these coming in from Air India, as they were configured in mono-class). The airline has also become more hybrid, with Air India Express offering Business Class seats at the front of the aircraft because this is how the MAXes were delivered so far.
But the process of harmonising has begun for these aircraft. Also, the network is larger now. Air India Express is now flying over 500 flights a day, across 60 cities (taking on a lot of routes that Air India is evacuating, as it focuses on key metros). The airline has launched a new campaign, which is called Xplore More, Xpress More. And there are hints that the airline has a harmonised product which is starting to come through. Here is a video they put out.
There are clues all over the place. First, note the new uniform for Air India Express cabin crew. They are now showcasing a new dress. The dress is turquoise in colour and has a salwar kameez look. This replaces, perhaps, the Red and Orange pantsuit the crew have been dressing up in for the past couple of years.

Next up, if you will notice, there are new seats. These appear to be Collins Meridian Slimline seats to me, but I guess we have to wait for an official confirmation either from Collins Aerospace or from Air India Express. What I am unclear about is if they equipped these seats with USB charging ports or not, because with the kind of missions AIX is undertaking now, they do need them for the customers.

Air India Express Seats
Bottomline
Air India Express has unveiled a new campaign, which focuses on the network and offerings of Air India Express. Some hints about the campaign reveal the new seats AIX is installing on their aircraft, as well as the new crew uniform. It also talks about the network of Air India, which has 60 airports around India and in the region now, and the airline flies 500 flights a day around.

Light tiffin and tea should be served for better journey
Also, seeing Meridian Slimline instead of the newer Helix seats is also a disappointment
Skipping USB chargers of any kind would be a major omission for any airline in 2025. I still think that giving full 3-pin power sockets is the gold standard but also understand that those are a nightmare for maintenance and increasingly not-required by the majority of the flying public, it’s just that nerds like me prefer our fast-charging bricks and laptop chargers to no end.
In 2025, the least an airline can do is provide atleast a 40W USB-PD PPS(v3.0) Type C chargers on each seat along with a basic 20W USB Type-A charger for supporting the rest of small electronics.
Ideally, the Type C connector should be 100W (or even USB-PD v3.1 supporting 240W for future-proofing) for supporting laptops as well. Asking for multiple of these would be a pipe dream but one can hope 🙂
At least the branding is getting better.
