Citibank’s Retail Business in India was bought by Axis Bank in 2023. Since then, they have been busy transitioning the cards to the Axis Bank Credit Cards portfolio. As a part of the transition, Citi PremierMiles was rebranded to the Axis Bank Horizon Credit Card. This card is now open for applications. Here are some details.
Axis Bank Horizon Credit Card: Key Details
The Axis Bank Horizon Credit Card is positioned as a mid-range, airline-agnostic travel credit card, essentially a younger sibling to the pricier Axis Atlas, with a reasonable fee and substantial travel-related rewards. Here are some of the key features of the card:
- Welcome Bonus: 5,000 EDGE Miles credited when you make your first transaction of INR 1,000 or more within 30 days of card issue.
- Renewal Reward: 1,500 EDGE Miles credited annually on the anniversary of issuance (from the 2nd year onward).
- Reward Earning Rates: The card has good potential to earn miles:
- Travel EDGE portal & direct airline spends: 5 EDGE Miles per INR 100 spent.
- All other eligible spends: 2 EDGE Miles per INR 100
- Many everyday categories, such as utilities, fuel, insurance, rent, tolls, educational institutions, government, and wallets, do not earn rewards.
-
Lounge Access: Where the card truly shines is in providing lounge access. You can get up to 32 domestic and eight international lounge trips per annum.
The card costs INR 3,000 per annum (ex-GST) in fees, so it makes excellent sense to sign up for the card as you come out ahead with 5,000 EDGE Miles in the first year. For renewal, the card gives you 1500 EDGE Miles every year.
In terms of using this particular variant of EDGE Miles, they are worth INR 1 per EDGE Mile, or can be transferred 1:1 into all EDGE transfer partners. And unlike Atlas, which has just a 1,50,000 Annual Transfer Cap and 30,000 for Cat A, this card has a 5,00,000 Annual Transfer Cap, and 1,00,000 for Cat A. So, that is another score over Atlas, and the card has a simplified structure compared to Atlas’s gamified structure.
Summing It Up: Who Should Apply for Horizon?
Great fit if you:
- Want a budget-friendly travel card with solid lounge access.
- Prefer reward simplicity over complex tiered perks.
- Don’t mind a 1:1 redemption rate if the annual fee is low and usage is moderate.
- Want good value without chasing high spends to unlock benefits.
Not ideal if you:
- Can meet high annual spends and prefer better redemption (Atlas wins here).
- Want hotel booking rewards beyond airline bookings.
- Want milestone bonuses or fee waivers based on usage.
Bottomline
The Axis Bank Horizon Credit Card brings thoughtful travel perks—welcome miles, lounge access, fuel waiver, and dining discounts—for just INR 3,000 + GST a year. It’s a sturdy, no-nonsense value for frequent flyers who don’t want the frills of premium cards. Just remember: you’ll earn 5X rewards for travel, 1X redemption rate, and no waivers — so it pays off best when travel is a reasonable part of your spend. In contrast, the Atlas card rewards the big spender—but at a higher cost. Choose Horizon if you’re looking for practicality and savings; go with Atlas if you demand maximum leverage for every rupee.
