This has been an interesting one to track right from the start. A week or so ago, SkyTeam member airlines Air France / KLM offered to match to Gold status in their FlyingBlue program anyone who was Gold status on another airline. The terms were generous and one had until May 30 to apply.
Then they realised, they forgot including the relevant geographies in the application. So, the offer was amended to include the Scandinavian countries, and the timeline was reduced to February 28 as the last date of the offer.
And now, it is gone, a month in advance.
Talk about bad copy botching up a campaign. Possibility does exist that FlyingBlue hit their numbers expected real quick, and maybe will honor the offer for all non-residents of Scandinavia as well. A boy can dream, right?

Just to test the water, I supplied my wife’s Gold Skymiles info (her Delta Gold status expires 28 Feb 2013), and,as of 26 Feb 2013, her KLM and AF accounts show that she has Gold status !
I’ll follow up if her Gold KLM/AF disappears on 1 March 2013.
They sent me an ivory welcome. I told them with no gold matching to forget it. Not worth flying AF.
I still haven’t been upgraded 🙁
I doubt that they will honor anything. Very unprofessional of Air France and KLM!!
Such a thing wouldn’t have happened in the Star Alliance…which is why I’ll stick to them where I feel to be dealing with a more professional airline network. SkyTeam now won’t have the possibility to prove me wrong.
