World of Hyatt has announced new updates for 2021, which could potentially mean a great opportunity to earn World of Hyatt Globalist at half of the usual requirements.
World of Hyatt 2021 qualification programme
Due to the pandemic, World of Hyatt, Hyatt’s loyalty programme, has notified new updates for 2021. Hyatt had initially extended everyone’s elite status by a year, to be valid through 2021 and early 2022. Now, Hyatt is offering everyone an opportunity to earn back status for 2022-23 with lower elite requirements via elite nights and base points, by staying at World of Hyatt participating properties during 2021.
The new requirements for 2021 (re)qualification in the World of Hyatt system will be:
- Discoverist: Earn five elite nights (instead of 10) or 12,500 base points
- Explorist: Earn 15 elite nights (instead of 30) or 25,000 base points
- Globalist: Earn 30 elite nights (instead of 60) or 50,000 base points
Remember, World of Hyatt elite nights earned during the period October 1 to February 28, 2021, will also count towards your next year’s status as a part of the Bonus Journeys promotion that was simultaneously extended. Suppose you stay between January 1 and February 28, 2021. In that case, you will earn double elite nights under the Bonus Journeys promotion, which will mean you can earn Hyatt Globalist just for 15 nights (assuming you have no credit cards from Hyatt and no elite nights rolled over from 2020). The status then works through 2021 as well as 2022, to end in early 2023. Also remember, you get a 15% rebate on Award Nights through February 28, 2021.
As a reminder, World Of Hyatt Globalist gets you unlimited Suite Upgrades basis availability, and also gets you 4 Suite Upgrade Certificates for a confirmed upgrade ahead of arrival, for up to 7-days per stay.
If you hold any sort of World of Hyatt Credit Cards, you get elite nights which also count towards the requirements, but that won’t be the case for India for sure (no such cards). The milestones to earn Milestone Rewards have not been moved at the moment.
If you decide to go forward with Hyatt stays to earn World of Hyatt status, remember, you can access global Hyatt Prive rates here, which earn you all the perks of a direct booking, but also earn you perks such as Free Breakfast, F&B or Spa Credits, Upgrades and late checkouts. Check out a couple of examples from the Indian Hyatt hotels.
Bottomline
World of Hyatt is offering a potential winner for the year 2021, where you can earn up to Globalist status at half the standard requirements. They will also provide double elite nights through February 28, 2021, which should make it one-fourth the usual for you to earn any status at Hyatt. Also, with the rollover nights, it becomes even more comfortable.
What do you think of the new requirements from the World of Hyatt to offer status at half off? Will you make a run for status in 2021 with Hyatt?

Hi Ajay, I have enrolled for the Hyatt status challenge and am currently having explorist status. I need to stay for 10 nights before Feb 15th to be explorist in 2021 and 20 nights for Globalist. If I stay in December 2020 will that be counted for 2022 or 2021 only. As you mentioned if I stayed for 15 nights in January to Feb I will be Globalist. Should I stay in December or postpone my stays to Jan. I know that bonus stays won’t count for Fastrack. Please let me know how can I reach Globalist fast.
Just want to comment that the 4 Suite Upgrade Certificates are not tied to achieving Globalist but are milestone awards that are granted after X number of qualified nights. I don’t believe that you will be granted the suite upgrade certificates unless you stay 50 nights and then only 2, and another 2 at 60 nights.
