One of my most favourite programmes around the globe is Alaska Airline’s Mileage Plan. The airline does not belong to any of the airline alliances throughout the world, but just like Jet Airways’ JetPrivilege from back in the day, the programme has about 15 independent partner airlines whose trips can be credited to the Mileage Plan programme.
Not just that, Alaska Airline has generous multipliers for partner flights, an outstanding redemption chart on partner airlines, as well as the ability to buy miles with a bonus many times during a year. Now, Alaska Airlines has just made it much more generous to credit miles to their programme through the rest of 2020.
Earn Alaska Mileage Plan Bonus Miles (at least 10K Miles per partner trip)
Between March 1 and December 31, 2020, Alaska Mileage Plan, via a new promotion, will be offering a minimum of 10,000 miles per roundtrip on eligible partners between North American and a non-North America destination.
The promotion is valid for flights on the following airlines, as long as you originate in the USA/Canada/Mexico/the Carribean and end the trip in a non-USA destination. You will earn a minimum of 5,000 miles on a one-way ticket or 10,000 miles on a roundtrip ticket.
- Aer Lingus
- British Airways
- Cathay Pacific
- Condor
- EL AL
- Emirates
- Fiji Airways
- Finnair
- Hainan Airlines
- Icelandair
- Japan Airlines
- Korean Air
- LATAM
- Qantas
- Singapore Airlines
The bonus miles offered through this promotion are redeemable award miles, not elite status miles, and all tickets flown between March 1, 2020, and December 31, 2020, will count regardless of when they are booked. No registration is required. The bonus miles come into your account 4-6 weeks after your travel is completed.
This promotion is vastly beneficial for anyone who is on tickets which don’t earn you enough miles otherwise. For instance, if you decide to put this on a JFK-LHR-BOM ticket, you will get a minimum of 750 miles on the cheapest discount ticket (RBDs Q, O, G) on JFK-LHR for a flown distance of 2999 miles, and then about 975 miles on the LHR-BOM leg. When crediting to Alaska Airlines, you would now receive 5975 miles one-way in this case, which is a whole lot more than the original.
What is not clear through the wording, is if elite bonuses count in the 5000 minimum or are extra. For those who don’t know, Alaska Airlines counts all partner miles as elite qualifying as well.
Bottomline
This is an excellent promotion from Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan, aimed towards attracting the attention of everyone who is a North-American originating or returning traveller towards itself. The intention may be to pull the leg of all the airlines who are going revenue-based. Or it may be to catch new eyeballs and get customers hooked on to their very unique programme in comparison to everyone else.
Are you going to use the Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan programme to credit your trips in the coming days to the USA?
