Someone please help me figure this out for the interest of all the readers. I woke up this morning to a report in the press stating that Jet Airways has dropped prices for Mumbai – London to Rs. 9,990 (without taxes) one way in the busy season of October-November. This is to counter the re-launch of Virgin Atlantic in the Mumbai – London sector from October 28.
The news report says:
Jet Airways, the country’s pre-eminent private carrier, has slashed fares on the Mumbai-London sector to less than 10,000 per person (excluding taxes), reviving memories of a price war that made fares on the South-east Asian routes from India one of the cheapest in the world.
The Naresh Goyal-promoted airline is offering 9,990 per passenger (round trip, excluding taxes) on Mumbai-London for 18 days beginning October 29, the day Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Atlantic resumes its India operations after a three-year break.
The fare is considerably cheaper than, say, that of British Airways, which charges 27,820 for a round trip between October 29 and November 5, excluding taxes, and Jet’s full fare of 60,000. Including taxes, the BA fare will be 59,654 compared with Jet’s 27,990.
However, I’ve had trouble finding at least finding one instance of this fare since morning. The lowest fare is from Saudi Arabian Airlines at about Rs. 38,000.Here is what the fare search engine ITASoftware shows for Jet Airways fares at Rs. 60,000. ITA does not search airline websites but GDS systems for fares:
Also, on Jet Airways’ own website, I cannot spot any of the special fares discussed in the press this morning, and I looked for various dates. All I saw was Rs. 60,000 to Rs. 80,000 of fares in Y:
Question is, are there any low fares, and if yes, where? Or is this just a way to get some free press and frustration from Jet Airways flyers?

even i checked for the same 28000…leave 28000 geting jets mumbai to london for 66000…they are doing marketing.

I saw some fares last week for November at INR 40000 (inclusive of taxes). BA also had the same fares available. I believe they were in reaction to Virgin Atlantic pricing its Mumbai-London flights at 9999 + taxes, adding upto INR 39000 approx. However the BA and Jet fares are no longer available so I assume they have been sold out. That essentially suggests that only a few seats are available at that fare level so the article is misleading.
