Welcome to the Jet Airways ticket lottery!

I’ve frequently given commendations and flak to Jet Airways here, but they keep getting better by the day and I just sometimes cannot figure out how to keep up with them. This one is a real lottery and they’ve left me scratching my head. Stay with me.

Last weekend, I was spending a lot of time booking tickets for my own and family’s travel in the days to come. And on Google, an innocent text-advertisement kept popping up. Have a look here:

Now, first, I followed the weblink mentioned all the way through to the Jet Airways website by typing http://www.jetairways.com/SeatSaleOffer and https://www.jetairways.com/SeatSaleOffer. At both times I got this screen below:

Whatever, then I went on to directly click the link (hey, I was trying to save them some money by not clicking on the link!). This leads me here:

Click, Click… and we are heading nowhere. The “Seats on Sale” promotion is out telling you 12% off on one-way fares for over 160 flights and the usual terms and conditions apply footnote. However, you cannot find any terms and conditions anywhere whatsoever, not even in the pages which list the terms and conditions of everything that is on the website right now.

So, I try getting in touch with Jet Airways on twitter, only to walk into a wall. I did not hear from them on this query 2-3 times in a row!

You see, at this point of time, I had given up on this promo, but I was interested in knowing for the benefit of readers what was this offer.

I tried booking using the link that would show up on the Google advertisement and I tried a sample BOM-BLR booking, without knowing which dates and which routes was this promotion going to be covering.

Perfect, lets try again… this time CCU-GAU on 30 Aug 2012.

Look ma, I hit the lottery. It works! I selected the 9W 619 flight and priced further. Keep in mind, I am working with limited information here, that there will be a 12% discount offered on over 160 flights when priced one-way. Which routes, don’t know and validity, don’t know either. It is a hit and miss scenario.

So, there is indeed a Rs. 361 discount on a flight with a base fare and fuel surcharge of Rs. 3010 (12% off!). Not that I am salivating yet, because this is far far away from where I live. Heck, it even worked on a metro route like BOM-DEL for a random date, but not for the date I wanted it to work.

So, just out of nowhere, then last night, Jet Airways’ official twitter account pings me a couple of direct messages, which I am treating as official communication from the airline. Have a look here:

There we go… here is an offer for sale of tickets under a promotion with no time limits and no rules known to mankind to play with. Hence, I name it the Jet Airways lottery.

If you do think you have an inkling of how this promotion works, do feel free to leave a note in the comments section. And if you do want to win a ticket, all you got to do is go to Google, search for ‘Jet Airways fare sale’ and the first thing that will pop-up is this promo offer.

All the best for the lottery!
