We are back online, and thank god for plastic money

I know I’ve been missing in action the past ten days or so. A few things have been happening and I am fully geared up to make it up to you!

First and foremost, I had a little burglary in my home a few days back. Yes, right in my home, not on the road, not in a different city. The only things gone were my wallet, my BlackBerry (a fairly new one!) and a portable hard drive. I spent almost a full day with the cops, who did not do much but give me a missing items report to help me get a new SIM card. So, it took a few days of calling the banks to get myself new cards issued. I now am back up to speed with the whole bunch except for a few. In the meanwhile, I was down to using the Gift Cards I recently purchased, and walking to the bank with my chequebook to get cash.  Always reminded me about safety measures. The Blackberry was a corporate asset, and was wiped immediately. The hard drive encrypted, so no use after 3 tries unless someone really wanted it, and hey, the cards were all blocked away. Hey, only the paranoid survive!

People told me, I was mad, maybe I dropped my wallet. Anyhow, this last evening, I recovered the wallet, near my home, in this condition, with the cards and the hard drive (unshelled, stuffed inside). The only thing gone is the money, my PAN Card, my ITC Culinary Plus card, my Jet Privilege card and some keys! Here is how it looked. Clearly I was not mad to believe it was a break-in of some sort.

I’m working on suitable countermeasures from Home Alone to make sure this is not repeated!!

Apart from that I’ve been gone from town more often than usual. I’ve been working in the Netherlands for a bit, just got back in town. Had a good flight out and inwards on Jet Airways, and trip reports will come up on those. Apart from that, burnt some miles, headed to Vienna for 36 hours as well. I also had an interesting stay in Bangalore where I managed to try out the Aloft Bangalore earlier in the month.

Lots to tell, and I am hoping I’ll be back up to speed with you guys now! Over to the regular scheduled programming! What have you guys been up to?

  1. You were very lucky to have not been injured (or killed), and that so little was taken from you. I’ve been burglarized twice, so I understand the anger and frustration. That someone can brazenly enter your home and take your things is shocking and infuriating. There is rarely much the police can (or will) do, so no satisfaction from that. Glad you are safe!

  2. Assumed you lost the key cards to your hotel suite and the Laptop, as well!!! 🙂 Welcome back AJ, and nice to hear you’re safe.

  3. Thank goodness you’re safe, and the losses weren’t more than what they are! Stay safe and good luck. Oh! and good to see you back, of course!
