Vistara launching flights between Mumbai and Mauritius on March 26, 2023

Vistara has been talking about new destinations in the African continent from India a lot. However, they did not have the equipment so far to fly these routes (unless they wanted to fly their long-haul Boeing 787-9 aircraft, which would not be the perfect instrument for this route).

Vistara recently took delivery of their first A321neo LR. With an increased maximum take-off weight of 97 tonnes and the third auxiliary centre fuel tank, the A321LR enables Vistara to cover a longer range of up to 4000NM.

Vistara has today announced direct, 5x weekly flights between Mumbai and Mauritius, starting 26 March 2023. Vistara will be using the A321LR aircraft and become the only airline to offer the choice of Premium Economy class on the route, in addition to Business and Economy class.

The timings of the 5-hour block time flight indicate this will most likely work as an origin and destination route rather than accumulate passengers from other Vistara destinations who will connect on this flight. However, the flight arrives in perfect time to head straight to your hotel/resort. Mauritius is a financial destination for some from Mumbai as well, apart from the tourism industry based there.

Vistara will see competition only from Air Mauritius on this route, which operates an A330neo widebody on the route with Economy and Business Class seating.

Mr Vinod Kannan, Chief Executive Officer, Vistara, said,

We are delighted to announce the addition of Mauritius, the scenic island country, to our constantly expanding global network. Besides being a popular tourist destination, the Republic of Mauritius is an important business hub and home to many global financial institutions. Given the strong cultural ties, trade and bilateral relations between India and Mauritius, this new route will further aid the growing traffic between the two countries. We are confident that travellers will appreciate our world-class product and thoughtful services on this route along with convenient, direct access to and from the island nation.

Tickets are available for sale on Vistara’s website and other websites such as MakeMyTrip as well now.

Bottomline

Vistara is venturing into uncharted territory with the launch of their flight between Mumbai and Mauritius. Until now, only Air Mauritius operated flights on this route (and even Air India had a codeshare with Air Mauritius rather than operate their own routes). However, with the arrival of the new A321LR, it makes it possible for Vistara to operate the new route without any payload restrictions. Vistara will launch flights between Mumbai and Mauritius on March 26, 2023, five times a week.
