Vietnam Airlines Lotusmiles offering SkyTeam status match across 46 carriers (match to top tier)

Vietnam Airlines, the Hanoi-based national carrier of Vietnam, has just launched a new, outright status match campaign that could be useful for those who use SkyTeam member airlines and are status holders in one of the 46 loyalty programmes that cover most of the globe.

Lotusmiles is the loyalty programme for Vietnam Airlines, a SkyTeam member airline based in Vietnam. The airline has launched a new status match campaign today, which allows you to earn a 12-month status outright with the carrier, as long as you have a certain status with one of the other airlines they are matching from and are willing to pay a fee.

Vietnam Airlines has four status tiers. These are:

  • Silver: Silver members enjoy preferential prices upon advance seat purchase and seat confirmation priority when Vietnam Airlines exchanges flights.
  •  Titanium: Priority check-in at the airport and one piece of additional baggage beyond the standard allowance. It also qualifies for the SkyTeam Elite Tier.
  •  Gold: In addition to all the Titanium benefits, the Gold Tier includes access to the Business Class Lounge, priority check-in at the airport, and many more. Gold members also qualify for the SkyTeam Elite Tier and all the eligible benefits.
  •  Platinum: The Platinum Tier includes access to all the perks of the Gold Tier, access to the Priority queues, and two extra bags over the standard benefits. Platinum members also qualify for the SkyTeam Elite Plus Tier and all the eligible benefits, which means they get to bring a plus one to the lounge across the SkyTeam network.

What Airlines’ Status will be matched?

Lotusmiles is now offering status to the following status holders across 46 airlines. Many of these are oneworld or Star Alliance member carriers. From an Indian perspective, Air India Flying Returns members will get matched. The status match allows for matches from major airlines such as Lufthansa, Swiss, Etihad, Emirates, British Airways, Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines and Qantas.

How to apply for the status match?

Vietnam Airlines has partnered with Status Match Co to offer the status match. You must sign up on this website. The Lotusmiles Status Match is paid, and the fee is charged according to your location for the Titanium Tier (entry-level status match).

  • Titanium Tier (SkyTeam Elite)
    • It costs USD 59 to apply for those from Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, China, and Thailand.
    • For those applying from Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Norway, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, and the USA, it costs USD 99.
  • Gold Tier (SkyTeam Elite) costs USD 159
  • Platinum Tier (SkyTeam Elite Plus) costs USD 299

Ultimately, the Platinum Tier makes the most sense if you fly SkyTeam Airlines frequently and are looking for a programme that offers the best benefits and lounge access.

  • Priority reservation wait list (when fares permit)
  • Preferred seating
  • Priority check-in counters
  • Priority boarding or at leisure
  • Extra baggage allowance

The benefits of Skyteam Elite Plus are as follows:

  • All the benefits of Skyteam Elite Tier
  • Guaranteed full-fare Y-class reservation on sold-out long-haul flights at least 24 hours before departure.
  • Access to airport lounges worldwide, regardless of the class of travel, is available for members with a boarding pass accompanied by a guest.
  • Priority baggage handling on arrival, whatever the class of travel
  • Extra baggage allowance

To participate in the campaign, you must apply, provide details of your airline status, and pay the associated application fee. During the application process, you will also be asked for evidence of your frequent flyer status.

Processing the Status Match and arriving at a decision will take three business days. Once approved, your new status will appear on your account within five business days.

Bottomline

Vietnam Airlines is offering a status match to the Platinum Status of their Lotusmiles programme. The airline’s frequent flyer programme offers a suite of perks, and for USD 59-299, you can get the appropriate status matched for twelve months outright.
