Under our current series on understanding the Trident Privilege program, we wrote about the various elite tiers in the program yesterday, and how to earn them. Today, we will focus a bit more on how to earn their mileage currency.

Points in the programme are calculated on the basis of money spent in the hotels during eligible stays. Points are valid for a period of 2 years, and expire if not redeemed at the end of the calendar year after two years. You can earn points for up to 3 rooms during the same stay, provided all the rooms are booked under the member’s name, and the member is also staying in one of the rooms.

Earning Points

Eligible stays are stays at the Trident hotels in India booked directly via Trident reservations. Points can be earned by spending on the following; room, food & beverage when staying the hotel, spa & fitness centre, business centre and meeting rooms. You get to earn 1,000 points for booking via the Trident website (but not directly via the hotel or their call-centre). One cannot accrue more than 100,000 base points during a stay. Trident also provides  for earning points for day-use rooms, which is something I haven’t seen many hotel programs to explicitly provide for.

Trident Privilege does not facilitate members to earn points on dining if they are not staying at the hotel, which is similar to Taj InnerCircle but different from global programs such as Hyatt Gold Passport and Starwood Preferred Guest. Points cannot be earned for any banquet events or catering functions members host at a Trident hotel as well.

Earning Airline Miles

Trident also has the option to help you earn air miles instead of their own points. You can choose to earn 500 miles on participating airline programs when staying at 6 Trident Hotels.

Trident has partnered with all sorts of non-Indian airline programs for their mileage earning partnership, which makes us believe that they are targeting these towards non-Indian guests, while pushing their own loyalty program towards Indian guests who could come back over and over again. The following programs participate in the Trident program:
• American Airlines – Aadvantage
• Hawaiin Airlines – Hawaiian Miles
• United Mileage Plus
• Virgin America Elevate
• Virgin Atlantic Flying Club

You can opt to earn airline miles only if you make an eligible stay for a minimum of 2 nights or more. If you opt to earn miles during your stay, that stay will not contribute to your tier status.

The following hotels offer the option of miles earning:
• Trident, Hyderabad
• Trident, Bandra Kurla, Mumbai
• Trident, Nariman Point, Mumbai
• Trident, Gurgaon
• Trident, Bhubaneswar
• Trident, Chennai

Bottomline

I am very curious to find out why is the program not in tie-ups with Indian airlines as well. Having said that, I think they have some reasonable earning and if you book via the website, you are almost always going to come out ahead.
