Now you can earn KrisFlyer miles for Vistara flights

One of the first discussions that happened after the launch of Vistara, was the close affinity that Vistara and Singapore Airlines share, and hence the fact that they will partner in terms of a loyalty program engagement. At the launch event in December 2014, the airline did announce Singapore Airlines/Silk Air as one of their first partners, and when I recently discussed Club Vistara with them, they indicated a partnership was coming soon. And it happened a couple of days back. From 30th of March 2015, there is a partnership which is live between Vistara and Singapore Airlines, which allows for the fliers on one airline to earn miles on the other’s frequent flyer program. Here is how you can…

March 2015 onwards, you can earn KrisFlyer miles for Vistara flights

This was a no-brainer to have happened. As one of the parents of Vistara, Singapore Airlines was always going to use its own reach to allow for Vistara to gain traffic in India. And one of the tools for that is the frequent flyer program. Last few weeks, I’ve covered the earn and burn aspects of Club Vistara, which is the loyalty program for Vistara. Just this morning the airlines (Singapore Airlines and Vistara) have announced that the flyers on both the airlines will be able to earn miles/points on taking flights on the other partner with effect from March 2015. For redemptions on the other partner, it will be possible from May 2015 onwards. KrisFlyer members will be able…

Premiermiles Transfer: Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer

PremierMiles Devaluation w.e.f. February 1, 2015 PremierMiles to Etihad Guest conversion PremierMiles to Air India Flying Returns conversion Singapore Airlines is one of the first transfer partners I want to cover for your PremierMiles conversion options from outside of India. I’ve converted PremierMiles to KrisFlyer miles a couple of times, once to get on one of the Ultra Long Haul LAX-SIN flights by Singapore Airlines in Business Class (on their all business class product), before they discontinued those. Singapore Airlines’ KrisFlyer is a great way to get award tickets on Singapore Airlines own metal, since availability is much more to Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Members  as compared to other Star Alliance member programs, who hardly get any availability for Singapore Airlines’…

Vistara: Is this the Tata-SIA airline brand name?

Tata – SIA has been very guarded about the name of their airline, which will be known on Monday, August 11, 2014. The branding exercise is work in progress, and the airline executives like to say they have many options, and Vistara is just one of them. However, Tata’s PR is maybe trying to follow an Apple style leak based philosophy, where they may be spreading the word out at the last minute. Anyhow, when I put out the information about the brand launch yesterday, a reader Arpit Jain tweeted back with the name, and it seems like there is already a domain registered with the brand name as well: @LiveFromALounge @RNTata2000 So this seems to be the Airline’s domain…

Singapore Airlines A380s to fly to Mumbai & Delhi May 2014 onwards

A couple of months back, a long standing decision of the Indian government to not allow the Airbus A380 planes in India was changed. As of end January, various carriers from around the globe were free to launch their A380 services to India. This was something I had also put out in my post on the predictions for Indian Aviation in 2014. While it has been expected that Lufthansa and Singapore Airlines will both start regular commercial operations with their A380s to India, it was a quest of who will do it first. And Singapore Airlines will take that cake. From May 30, 2014 onwards, Singapore Airlines is upgrading 1 service per day to Mumbai, which was earlier operated by…

20% bonus on Citibank miles conversion to Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer miles

One good part about earning miles neutrally is the choice of transfer partners offered, and the bonuses they run sometimes. For the past two years, we have seen transfer bonuses from Etihad & British Airways on Citibank products, and Jet Airways as well, for Citibank credit cards ex-PremierMiles. Just yesterday, Citibank and Singapore Airlines have begin to offer a 20% bonus on conversion of Citibank points/miles to your Singapore KrisFlyer frequent flyer account. Now while I won’t be able to post a full review of the KrisFlyer program at this moment, but like most programs in Asia, they charge fuel surcharges, and lots of them. However, the Singapore Airlines product is usually top notch, and you get access to a…

Singapore Airlines & Tata join hands to launch an airline in India

I was travelling all day yesterday and hence could not bring you the good news! The Tata conglomerate, some of whose family members have been really passionate about aviation, put their hat back in the Indian aviation game earlier this year. First, they signed up to be a 30% shareholder in Air Asia India, which plans to launch a low cost airline in India by early 2014. And just yesterday, a new press release from the Tata group announced that they have signed up to make a 51:49 joint venture with Singapore Airlines, which will aim to launch a full-service airline in India with an initial investment of $100 million. While I am totally surprised by the move to cover…

Singapore Airlines Business Class: my best PremierMiles redemption till date

Not like I’ve been swarming in PremierMiles, but I’ve been able to make some good transfers over the past 18 or so months to get the best value out of my PremierMiles. And while I’d encourage you to participate in this poll where I am trying to figure out how do you guys use your miles, here is a flight I just stepped off which is perhaps my best redemption of PremierMiles till date. I spent the past week travelling to the other side of the globe for the Boarding Area Conference, and then, on the way back, got a flat tire, and also stopped by in NYC for a bit. On the way back to Mumbai, I wanted to…
