ICICI & Citibank PremierMiles mileage earning changes for 2014

I wanted to put out this post so that I could remind all of you of certain changes that are supposed to kick in as of January 1, 2014 for Citibank PremierMiles and ICICI Bank Jet Airways credit cards. Citibank PremierMiles had waived off the cap of INR 5,00,000 per annum on Airline tickets spend to earn Accelerated mileage (10 PremierMiles/INR 100 spend) last June as a special promotion. However, this promotion was valid only till December 31, 2013. From January 1, 2014, any airline spend as defined below, will earn 10 PM/INR 100 spend till you reach the limit of INR 5,00,000 for the year, and then you earn 4 PM/INR 100 for airline spends on an on-going basis as…

Peeping into 2014 for the Indian skies

I’m back at my desk early this morning thinking and all excited about how 2014 would shape up for work, personal life and my travel plans. As an aviation geek, of course, I am looking forward to trying out new products in the skies and trying to decide what goals should I work towards in 2014. This year might just be a very exciting year for Indian aviation. Here is why: Air India might get accepted into the Star Alliance this year. Air India has been trying to get into the Star Alliance for a long time. After much back and forth, last month,  they got invited to join the Star Alliance the second time over. Whether they will join…

Jet Airways has been running a lucrative 20% bonus on conversion of your points to JPMiles for a while now. It comes and goes every now and then. In the current avatar, the following banks/loyalty program points are being converted to miles with 20% bonus: American Express Citibank India/UAE (ex PremierMiles issued in India) HDFC Bank HSBC IndusInd Bank Kotak Payback Punjab National Bank SBI Card Standard Chartered Bank (India/UAE) Tata Cards RBS Additionally, there is a promotion on conversion of Hotel loyalty points into JPMiles as well, which will expire on 31 December 2013 as well. Not the greatest, in my belief, however, some of you might want to use it to top off your JP accounts as well.…

Jet Airways launches an iOS app

One of the perennial cribs I have had with Indian airlines has been the lack of apps on the various smartphones. These are required these days purely from the purpose of keeping up with the life on the go. Jet Airways started to roll out apps for various smartphones earlier this year, and went with the Android app in September. They promised an iOS app soon, and it seems it turned up on Christmas. I downloaded the app today, and the functionality seems to be similar to the app on the Android platform. You can book flights, check flight status, log into your JP account and check your account activity and so on… However, I also found it lacking in…

Jet Airways 10% off on all international flights till 8th December

Jet Airways has been frequently running fare sales of late, however this one is an unconditional one and hence I put it up here. There is a 10% off on all fares for international travel on any route for JetPrivilege members for today and tomorrow (i.e. 7 & 8 December 2013). These discounts are valid for travel from 20 January 2014 onwards, and on business as well as economy fares. For once, the discount is also clearly marked on the website. For instance this is a random date in January for BOM-BRU-BOM travel while I am logged into my JP account. The fare shows a discount. When I am not logged into my JetPrivilege account, it shows a full fare.…

Etihad acquires 24% in Jet Airways and majority stake in JetPrivilege

Jet Airways has completed the induction of Etihad Airways as a 24% shareholder in the airline, following the initial announcement of this deal in April 2013. Under the deal, Jet Airways issued new shares to Etihad Airways, and the stake of the founder/promoter of the airline, Naresh Goyal, is now down to 51%. James Hogan, who is the CEO of Etihad Airways, and James Rigney, who is the CFO, have also come on the Board of Directors of Jet Airways. In a related move, JetPrivilege, the loyalty program of Jet Airways, which was spun off into a separate company last year, also got sold with 50.1% stake of the JP program now with Etihad. Like I have stated earlier, there…

Unlimited lounge access on ICICI-Jet-Amex credit cards, and extra JP Miles

ICICI Bank’s Jet Airways co-branded credit cards have now completed about a full year in the business. When they started, they had a lot of issues with putting out credit cards, most of which are now resolved. Very recently, they offered a special promotion where there were extra JPMiles going out for signing up for the Visa version, or spending on the Visa version of the ICICI Bank 9W credit card. Now, a few important changes made to the product offering. Earlier, there were only 4 complimentary visits allowed per annum to the Altitude Lounge in Mumbai and Delhi. Now, this changes from 1st November 2013 onwards to make it unlimited trips to the lounges. Here are the reviews of…

Jet Airways begins to offer seat selection for a price

Unbundling has been around for a while, and all the Indian domestic aviation players jumped on the opportunity to monetize their seats. Jet Airways stayed away from this game for a while, only offering their Platinum Members the opportunity to select seats for free. However, earlier this week, they have started to offer a Seat Select feature to all their passengers on the domestic network. Initially, the pre-reservation of seats has been offered on the Boeing 737 network between the 6 key cities: Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Kolkata and Hyderabad. Pricing is at INR 500 for the bulkhead Window & Aisle seats, and INR 200 for the bulkhead Window & Aisle of the 5 rows behind the bulkhead. The good…

2,500 JPMiles for enrolment with JetPrivilege

Jet Airways is offering all new members who sign up using their recent link, a sign-up bonus of 2,500 JetPrivilege miles. JetPrivilege does bring up this promotion from time to time. Points usually post instantaneously or within a few hours. While the duration of the promotion is unspecified, only new members should enrol using this link, because existing accounts won’t get any bonus miles to enrol again, and opening a new account is useless for you since you’re allowed only one JP account under the terms of the program. Mileage credits are usually instantaneous, or within a few hours. So, if you intend to be crediting miles to JetPrivilege for flights on Jet Airways or other partner carriers, this may…
