Amex offering 20% bonus on MR conversion to Etihad Guest Miles

A short while back I wrote about the excellent 30% bonus that American Express was offering for conversions from India-based cards’ Membership Rewards to Avios, which can be used on British Airways and Iberia. I also spotted today on the American Express Membership Rewards portal, that there is a promotion on for Etihad Guest Miles conversion as well. Etihad Guest Miles transfer at 1.6 MR = 1 Etihad Guest Mile. While I have not figured a good hidden gem in the Etihad Guest Miles program yet (they charge about 42K miles for a one-way ticket to London in Economy), if you need some more EY miles to top-up your existing balances, this is a good time to take benefit of…

Speculation: Is Jet Airways going to get a shareholder in Etihad Airways?

I read an interesting discussion in the news yesterday. A report published in the Business Standard in India wrote about senior Jet Airways management, including chairman Naresh Goyal and CEO Nikos Kardasis camping in Abu Dhabi to thrash out a deal for Jet Airways getting an investment from Etihad Airways. This is on the heels of Indian aviation opening up for foreign investment last week: Four days after the Union cabinet allowed 49 per cent foreign direct investment in aviation, a new strategic alliance seems to be on the cards. Jet Airways chairman Naresh Goyal and his top management are in Abu Dhabi for the past couple of days to negotiate with Etihad Airways, fuelling speculation of a possible alliance…

Etihad Guest status matches completed!

A couple of months back Gary posted about Etihad Guests offering 1,000 status matches.  While it seems a lot of folks applied, no body heard back from Etihad for the longest time. As per this thread on FT, conspiracy theory went around about Etihad creating a huge marketing database and not keeping up to the ‘first’ 1,000 applicants in the list. Shoot me, but I support the theory because there is a lot more movement happening with people who apply, for instance, to the Turkish Airlines Star Alliance Gold status match ongoing at present. Status Matches are commercial decisions for airlines, however, when the marketing material speaks of the first 1,000 then clearly it took them a lot longer to wade…

Etihad 48-hour 25% off sale on India to USA fares!

Etihad Airways is offering a special 48 hours sale (valid till 14th October 2011) on economy class tickets from India to all its US destinations. Etihad, the national airlines of the UAE and cousin to Emirates, came up with a new deal as of today to bump up volumes on its Shorthaul product from India to Abu Dhabi and the long-haul product to the USA. In India, Etihad flies from 8 airports including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and all the 3 airports in Kerala. After a quick transit at Abu Dhabi, you are off to New York or Chicago on an A340-500. This is a sweet deal if you are intending to head up to the USA from India…
