Sri Lanka bans arrivals from India with immediate effect

India is getting locked out of the globe with alarming quickness, with countries blocking access to India given the second wave of the pandemic. Now, one more country joins the list.

Sri Lanka bars all arrivals from India with immediate effect

Today, Sri Lanka announced that all arrivals from India are banned with immediate effect on account of the rising cases of CoVid-19 in the country. The Civil Aviation Authority on Thursday said that travellers from India would not be allowed to disembark in Sri Lanka. The decision has been taken as the coronavirus continues to spread rapidly in India.

The Director-General Civil Aviation of Sri Lanka wrote in a letter to Srilankan Airlines:

in accordance with instructions received from health authorities of Sri Lanka due to the Covid-19 pandemic situation, it is hereby directed that passengers travelling from India will not be permitted to disembark in Sri Lanka with immediate effect.

Sri Lanka had just about opened up for Indians under a unique travel bubble, and now the bubble is off. This move, unfortunately, also means the Australian contingent of the IPL won’t be able to move to Sri Lanka and will perhaps head to the Maldives instead.

Anybody around here who had booked up travel to Sri Lanka in the coming days?

  1. They didn’t do this nor any other country in the world did this when US was reporting sky rocketing covid19 numbers. Only Indian citizens get this treatment. Thats our value at international level.
