Singapore Airlines postpones the return of the A380 to Delhi to February 2022

In late November 2021, Singapore Airlines restarted services to India as part of Singapore opening up the Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) with India. As a part of the Vaccinated Travel Lane, only vaccinated people can get on specific VTL-designated flights, and they can arrive in Singapore without the requirement to quarantine on arrival. VTL flights operate from Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai to Singapore from India. However, subsequently, to contain the Omicron menace, Singapore ordered suspension of the sale of VTL flights for a period of a month.

Singapore Airlines postpones resumption of A380 services to India

Singapore Airlines had announced the return of its Airbus A380 to India after a 20-month break in services. The world’s largest passenger aircraft was supposed to operate on SIA’s VTL services from Mumbai and Delhi, complete with the Airline’s redesigned First Class Suites.

The original plan was, starting January 10, 2022, the A380 would replace the Airbus A350-900 on the SQ 424/423 VTL services between Mumbai and Singapore. Beginning February 14, 2022, SIA will operate the A380 in place of the Boeing 787-10 on the SQ 406/403 VTL services between Delhi and Singapore.

However, with the temporary embargo on ticket sales, Singapore Airlines has postponed the return to India of the A380 to February 2022 now. As of now, starting February 07, 2022, the A380 would replace the Airbus A350-900 on the SQ 424/423 VTL services between Mumbai and Singapore. Beginning February 14, 2022, SIA will operate the A380 in place of the Boeing 787-10 on the SQ 406/403 VTL services between Delhi and Singapore.

The Singapore Airlines A380 is configured with 471 seats in four classes: six Suites and 78 Business Class seats on the upper deck and 44 Premium Economy Class and 343 Economy Class seats on the main deck.

The six semi-private Suite cabins offer unparalleled privacy and luxury, complete with privacy doors, an independent swivel chair and a stand-alone bed with hotel-style evening turndown service. Four of the Suites can also be combined to form double Suites for couples travelling together. Suites passengers are offered a choice of Dom Perignon or Krug Champagnes, sleeper suits and premium amenities from Lalique, and meals served on fine linen and Wedgewood China.

Bottomline

Singapore Airlines is bringing India back into the A380 network, resuming operations of the A380 to Mumbai and Delhi in February 2022. Both the flights will operate as VTL flights, which means arrivals in Singapore will not be required to quarantine on arrival.
