Vistara cancels 67 flights due to crew unavailability; more cancellations coming

Vistara, awaiting final clearances for a merger with Air India, has had a terrible few days over the long weekend. The airline has cancelled dozens of flights over the past few days.

Vistara witnessed significant cancellations over the long weekend.

Vistara has previously had pilots go on sick leave to protest the reduction of their pay packages and to harmonise them with Air India packages. Over this past weekend, the airline saw another round of cancellations and delays.

Here is the Mumbai Flight Information Display System this afternoon, with almost all Vistara flights delayed.

Vistara has blamed these delays on Operational Reasons. Here is the statement it gave out to NDTV,

We confirm that we have had a number of flight cancellations and unavoidable delays in the last few days due to various operational reasons

Vistara will now temporarily reduce flights after significant delays & cancellations in the past few days due to crew unavailability. They will also deploy larger aircraft, such as their Boeing 787-9 & A321s, on select domestic routes to be able to combine flights. This means more cancellations are coming and reassignments to other flights as well.

Here are the Boeing 787-9 operations for April 2, 2024:

  • DEL – BOM: UK995, UK941
  • BOM – DEL:  UK940
  • BOM – BLR: UK853
  • BLR – BOM: UK854

  1. Unfortunately pilots are left with no choice but to resort to these measures. In the end, it’s the passengers that suffer.

  2. This is worrying. I have 2 back to back Vistara Flights from Delhi to Bhubnwshwar and back tied up with non cancellable hotel bookings and a return international flight from delhi. Do they give some sort of compensation

  3. I hope they are back to normalcy soon. @Ajay, what’s your take on new AI FFP revamp? Will they merge vistara FFP in this round?
